Napoli double Sarri salary

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis paid a surprise visit to Maurizio Sarri in order to discuss extending the tactician’s contract with a doubled salary.

The Partenopei are currently top of the Serie A table and much of the credit has been given to their Coach, particularly for their free-flowing and beautiful style of football.

According to Il Mattino newspaper, De Laurentiis is increasingly concerned he could lose Sarri come the end of the season, especially as there is a release clause in his current contract worth €8m.

Jorginho agent: 'We await offers'

Jorginho is focused on playing for Italy and winning with Napoli, said his agent, but in June “we’ll see what offers arrive.”

The Brazil-born midfielder has caught the eye of several clubs, above all Manchester United, thanks to his performances pulling the strings at the Stadio San Paolo.

“Jorginho wants to play for the Nazionale and be there for the friendly against England. That is his objective, alongside winning with Napoli,” agent Joao Santos told Tuttomercatoweb.

Hamsik already a Napoli legend

Marek Hamsik hasn't just broken Napoli records, writes Emmet Gates, but over a decade embedded himself in the fabric of the club and the city.

As Dries Mertens rolled the ball across the turf at the Stadio San Paolo in the 38th minute against Sampdoria, Marek Hamsik knew this was it: the chance to make history.

It was an opportunity that had looked inevitable, to break a record that loomed over and consumed him for months and weeks, to overtake Diego Maradona as the club’s record goal-scorer.

Of course he didn’t miss, delicately lifting the ball over the on-rushing Emiliano Viviano into the roof of the net to give Napoli the lead, and indeed the victory.

They won’t wait around forever, so Verdi has been given until Sunday to give a response on a January transfer.

Maradona: 'Montella-Sevilla madness'

The decision to fire Berizzo caused immense controversy, as he had just returned to work following cancer treatment when given the boot two days before Christmas.

“It is madness that Montella should take Berizzo’s place,” wrote Maradona on Instagram.

Matuzalem banned for ref slap

Former Napoli, Lazio, Genoa and Verona midfielder Francelino Matuzalem received a three-month ban for slapping a referee.

Now 37, he shows no signs of removing that reputation as a player who walked a fine line between gritty and downright violent.

He is currently playing for Serie D side Monterosi, but is barred from taking to the field until April 10 after a shocking incident.

Matuzalem was sent off during the derby with Flaminia Civita Castellana for a foul, but when the referee went to wave the red card, the player slapped it out of his hand.

‘Atalanta want Giaccherini’

Emanuele Giaccherini’s agents says Atalanta “like him a lot” and says there was a “misunderstanding” about his Napoli role.

“He’ll definitely leave Napoli,” Furio Valcareggi confirmed, speaking to Premium Sport.
