Meret ready to return

Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret is believed to be close to a return, and just needs the go-ahead from club doctors.

The youngster broke a bone in his arm in his first training session after signing from Udinese, so is still to make his debut for the Partenopei.

His injury saw the club sign David Ospina, having also signed Orestis Karnezis from Udinese.

Today the Corriere dello Sport reports that Meret is close to a return, and will soon have a final check-up on the arm.

Inter, Napoli avoid sanctions

Inter and Napoli have avoided any sanction for fans setting off flares, after demonstrating they did everything in their power to prevent it.

There are strict liability regulations in force in Serie A, meaning each club is responsible the behaviour of their own fans.

The Giudice Sportivo found that both Inter and Napoli fans set off “pyrotechnic material of various kinds” in their respective matches though “exclusively in their own section”.

Ancelotti pays Terry tribute

Napoli Coach Carlo Ancelotti pays tribute to John Terry after his retirement - “an honour to have had you as captain”.

Carletto spent two seasons at Chelsea, winning the Premier League and FA Cup in the 2009-10 season before being sacked the following summer after a trophyless campaign.

Last night his captain for those triumphs, who made over 700 appearances for the Blues, announced his retirement and Ancelotti paid tribute on his Instagram page.

“An honour to have had you as captain,” the Partenopei boss wrote.

Can Serie A end Europa drought?

With no Italian team winning the competition in 20 years, Vilizar Yakimov analyses the Lazio’s and Milan’s chances of ending this painfully long run this term.

Twenty years. Yes, it has been that long since an Italian club has won the Europa League or the UEFA Cup as it was known in 1998-99 when the legendary Parma team lifted the trophy. Sadly, an Italian side has even failed to qualify for the final of the competition since that remarkable 3-0 victory that the Ducali earned against Olympique Marseille at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

“We were successful, and it’s good for the team and I that I scored right away. There’s not else much to say,” the winger told Sky Sport Italia.

De Zerbi defends Sassuolo

Roberto De Zerbi believes Sassuolo did enough to earn a point against Napoli, defending his choices and Manuel Locatelli.

It was a surprisingly hard-fought encounter at the Stadio San Paolo, as in the second half David Ospina was called into several very tricky saves.

“It’s pleasing that Ospina was made to work so hard, as it means we did well,” said the Coach in his Press conference after a 2-0 defeat.
