Lampard: 'Jorginho Chelsea vice-captain'

Italy international Jorginho is the new vice-captain of Chelsea, confirmed Frank Lampard. “He is a character and a driver, on and off the pitch.”

The former Napoli midfielder had been singled out for criticism by fans and media last season under Maurizio Sarri, but has now become a favourite at Stamford Bridge.

“Jorginho is vice-captain as it stands. Cesar Azpilicueta is the captain and that was clear at the start of the season and I think his professionalism and career here speaks for itself,” said manager Lampard in a Press conference.

Sarri and Juventus tweak recipe

Maurizio Sarri seemed to fit Juventus like Parmesan on seafood pasta, but Giancarlo Rinaldi can imagine them changing each other for better - or worse.

It’s hard to avoid a wince when someone asks for Parmesan on their pasta with a seafood sauce. And many of us felt it was a similar faux pas when Juventus appointed Maurizio Sarri in the summer. Could these prime preachers of ‘winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing’ really add a sprinkle of ‘let me entertain you’ to their footballing philosophy?

Agent: Why not Son at Napoli?

Son Heung-min’s agent has talked up a potential move to Napoli for the Tottenham Hotspur attacker. “One day, who knows?”

Son has established himself as a world star with his performances for Tottenham in recent seasons, but Thies Bliemeister suggested Napoli would appeal to the 27-year-old if he ever left last season’s Champions League finalists.

“I’ve never brought a player to Napoli, but I’d like too because Maradona, my favourite player, played for them,” Bliemeister told Radio Marte.

Mazzarri available for Napoli

Torino boss Walter Mazzarri will be in the dugout against former club Napoli on Sunday after his touchline ban was lifted.

Mazzarri and his assistant Nicolo Frustalupi were due to miss the match with Napoli, having both been sent to the stands during Toro’s 3-2 defeat at Parma earlier in the week.

However, the Granata announced in a statement on their official website that the pair’s appeal to have the suspension revoked had been accepted.

Maradona drops seven Gimnasia players

Diego Maradona has sensationally dropped seven of his first-team players as he looks to end Gimnasia La Plata’s miserable run of form.

Maradona was hired by Gimnasia to great fanfare last month, but he has so far been unable to unrest the club’s poor run of form, overseeing three straight defeats.

In a bid to shake things up, The Sun reports the Napoli icon has demoted as many as seven players to the reserves - Jonathan Chacon, Guillermo Enrique, Lucas Miguez, Juan Cataldi, Khalil Caraballo, Eric Ramirez and Lucas Calderon.

Inter: Lukaku in Belgium squad

Inter striker Romelu Lukaku has joined Dries Mertens and Timothy Castagne in the Belgium squad to face San Marino and Kazakhstan.

Lukaku had missed Inter’s 2-1 defeat to Barcelona with a muscular issue, but the striker should be fit for the Derby d’Italia with Juve on Sunday.

He is therefore called up to the Belgium squad for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers with San Marino and Kazakhstan.

There are also places for Napoli forward Mertens and Atalanta wingback Castagne, who has made a full recovery from a knee injury.

Ancelotti considers Napoli exit?

Carlo Ancelotti could reportedly quit Napoli at the end of the season if the club’s fortunes do not improve.

Expectations for Ancelotti’s Napoli were high coming into the season after they signed the likes of Kostas Manolas and Hirving Lozano.

A 2-0 victory over Champions League holders Liverpool and three goals clawed back against Juventus, despite an eventual 4-3 defeat, seemed to verify them.

However, a home loss to Cagliari and dropped points against Racing Genk have been compounded by some tension with captain Lorenzo Insigne.

Milan: Spain leave out Suso

Spain have called up Pau Lopez, Luis Alberto and Fabian Ruiz for upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers but left out Milan attacker Suso.

Lopez, Fabian and Luis Alberto have been rewarded for their strong starts to the season, the latter earning a recall after five assists in just seven games for Lazio.

However, Suso is omitted after a meagre return of no goals and just the one assist, having struggled in his new position of Milan No 10.

Elsewhere, former Napoli defender Raul Albiol is included after helping Villarreal to three wins in their last four matches.
