Doveri: 'Almost nothing had changed'

Referee Daniele Doveri has claimed it was a ‘beautiful feeling’ to be back on the pitch and revealed ‘almost nothing had changed’ during the Coppa Italia Final: “I just had to lower my voice.”

The match official spoke to Il Messaggero about his first match after the long break, as he oversaw the first trophy assignment post-COVID.

“It was a strange but beautiful feeling,” he said. “The return to the pitch is a nice message that sees football as a vehicle to restore normality in the country.

The AIA has announced that Fabrizio Pasqua will oversee Hellas Verona-Napoli, whilst Fabio Maresca has been given Torino-Udinese tomorrow.

Pasqua will lead Napoli for the third time this season, but the Partenopei have lost both games with the 37-year-old at the whistle – against Bologna and Fiorentina.

Maresca oversaw Udinese’s 7-1 defeat to Atalanta earlier this season and Torino’s 3-0 defeat to Inter.

Callejon situation unclear at Napoli

Jose Callejon has reportedly not yet decided if he’ll remain at Napoli after June 30, as he was seen in tears during the Coppa Italia Final.

The 33-year-old has been at the Stadio San Paolo since 2013 and his contract is due to expire on June 30, so he must agree a temporary extension to see out the rest of the campaign.

That would run through August, as Napoli are in the Champions League.

Liverpool way off Koulibaly price-tag

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool are offering €60m for Kalidou Koulibaly, but that’s a long way off Napoli’s €100m asking price.

The centre-back has been repeatedly linked with a move away from the Stadio San Paolo this summer, although the Partenopei have no intention of lowering his transfer valuation.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain were strong contenders, but Liverpool are now stepping up the pressure, as they want to form a sensational partnership with Virgil van Dijk.

De Jong at risk for Barca-Napoli

Barcelona could have a decimated midfield when they face Napoli in the Champions League, as Frenkie de Jong picked up a calf injury.

Although the second leg of that encounter won’t be until early August, having drawn 1-1 at the Stadio San Paolo, there are already some concerns for the Blaugrana.

A statement today confirmed De Jong has a tear to the soleus of his right leg and “the evolution of the injury will condition the player’s availability.”

Marseille slash Thauvin price-tag

Olympique Marseille are prepared to listen to offers worth €20m for Florian Thauvin, claim L’Equipe, putting Milan, Roma, Juventus and Napoli on alert.

The Ligue 1 club have financial problems and need to sell quickly, so L’Equipe and La Gazzetta dello Sport are confident the star man’s price-tag has plummeted.

That is also partly because he only made two substitute appearances all season due to a serious ankle injury that has been dragging on for almost a year.

Jeremie Boga admits he is ‘ready for a new chapter, whether in Italy or abroad, but I could remain at Sassuolo too. I have no Chelsea regrets.’

The attacking winger came up through the Chelsea youth academy, but was sold to Sassuolo in 2018 and flourished in Serie A.

“I am ready for a new chapter,” Boga told Telefoot in France.

“I have no regrets, as I made the right decision in leaving Chelsea. I think that was the best choice I could’ve made in the circumstances.”
