Napoli set Verdi deadline

Napoli have given Bologna winger Simone Verdi until Sunday to give the all-clear to a transfer, otherwise they’re going for Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona.

According to a report on Radio Goal, the Partenopei have agreed basic terms with Barcelona and Deulofeu, but still see him as their second choice behind Verdi.

They won’t wait around forever, so Verdi has been given until Sunday to give a response on a January transfer.

Diego Armando Maradona criticised Sevilla for hiring Vincenzo Montella to replace Eduardo Berizzo. “There are thousands of Coaches who could do the job.”

The decision to fire Berizzo caused immense controversy, as he had just returned to work following cancer treatment when given the boot two days before Christmas.

“It is madness that Montella should take Berizzo’s place,” wrote Maradona on Instagram.

Matuzalem banned for ref slap

Former Napoli, Lazio, Genoa and Verona midfielder Francelino Matuzalem received a three-month ban for slapping a referee.

Now 37, he shows no signs of removing that reputation as a player who walked a fine line between gritty and downright violent.

He is currently playing for Serie D side Monterosi, but is barred from taking to the field until April 10 after a shocking incident.

Matuzalem was sent off during the derby with Flaminia Civita Castellana for a foul, but when the referee went to wave the red card, the player slapped it out of his hand.

‘Napoli want to win EL’

Kalidou Koulibaly insists Napoli are “playing to win" the Europa League but “it’s better not to speak” about the Scudetto.

Mancini: ‘I rebuilt Inter’

Roberto Mancini says he “rebuilt” Inter, but “signings were needed in January to keep up”.

The Zenit St Petersburg Coach was in charge of the Nerazzurri for a second time in the 2015-16 season, and after a strong start to the season they tailed off in the second half to finish fourth, outside of the Champions League places.

A similar trend appears to be developing this season, with Luciano Spalletti undefeated until December 16 but having failed to win in seven games across all competitions.
