Ancelotti: Ref attacked my character

Carlo Ancelotti slammed referee Piero Giacomelli after Napoli’s 2-2 draw with Atalanta for sending him off without just cause. “I feel under attack...”

Ancelotti was sent straight down the tunnel by Giacomelli as tempers frayed towards the end of the match, when Napoli controversially had a penalty denied by VAR and Atalanta in turn were able to equalise.

ADL: Refs have no respect!

A furious Aurelio De Laurentiis claims referees would be “peeling potatoes” if it was not for Serie A owners after Napoli’s controversial 2-2 draw with Atalanta.

Napoli were denied a penalty by VAR late on against Atalanta, who in turn equalised for a dramatic point, prompting De Laurentiis to take aim at the state of refereeing in Italy.

"I don’t think Rizzoli and Nicchi do their job well,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Koulibaly: 'Proud of Ballon d'Or nod'

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is proud at his 2019 Ballon d'Or nomination and African football's progress. "We've dreamed about it for years."

Koulibaly, 28, spoke to Algerian website Le Buteur about his close friend Faouzi Ghoulam, charity work and his presence in the 50-man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or award.

"The fact that there are several African nominations (for the Ballon d'Or) shows the enourmous progress African football is making," said the Senegal international.

Napoli's Malcuit has surgery

Napoli confirm full-back Kevin Malcuit has gone under the knife for a torn anterior cruciate ligament and is expected to be out for six months.

The 28-year-old sustained the injury during Sunday’s 1-1 Serie A draw with SPAL.

He had surgery at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome this morning to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

It’s widely reported this type of injury will keep Malcuit on the sidelines for approximately six months.

Probable line-ups: Napoli-Atalanta

Napoli are set for a defensive reshuffle this evening against Atalanta, who remain without top goalscorer Duvan Zapata.

A season-ending ACL injury to Malcuit could see centre-back Sebastiano Luperto start on the left, with Nikola Maksimovic coming into the heart of defence as Kostas Manolas is still sidelined.

Elsewhere, Lorenzo Insigne could drop out as Carlo Ancelotti seems inclined to go with Hirving Lozano and Dries Mertens up top, so Fabian Ruiz is a candidate for the left wing.

Napoli lose Ghoulam for Atalanta

Napoli will be without Faouzi Ghoulam against Atalanta tomorrow after the left-back picked up a muscle injury.

Napoli confirmed on the eve of Atalanta’s visit to the San Paolo that Ghoulam suffered “a muscular problem” in training and was therefore unavailable.

The Algerian recovered from two serious knee injuries in October 2018 and had played in five of the Partenopei’s eight Serie A games so far this season.

However, there is a theory gaining traction that Carlo Ancelotti simply no longer rates him.
