U21 Iceland-Italy 1-2: Pobega brace decisive

A brace of Milan loanee Tommaso Pobega gave Italy U21 a 2-1 win in Iceland in a Euro 2021 qualifier allowing the Azzurrini to move on top of the table.

The locals had never lost a group stage game at home this season.

Genoa’s Nicolò Rovella and Gianluca Scamacca created the first chance for Italy but the midfielder’s final pass from good position was inaccurate.

Riccardo Sottil came close to scoring from a free kick before Pobega opened the account.

Italy U20 take U21's place against Ireland

Italy Under-21 will be replaced by the Under-20 national team for the UEFA U21 Championship qualifier against Republic of Ireland.

The Under-21 side will not play against Ireland tomorrow due to the seven positive cases of coronavirus in recent days, but the Federation have decided to still play the match.

Alberto Bolli’s Under-20 side will play the match against group leaders Ireland in Pisa.

Pescara: Bellanova has COVID

Pescara have officially announced Raoul Bellanova was one of the three Italy Under-21 players to test positive for coronavirus.

The club has released a statement to confirm the news on after Italy Under-21 found three new cases of COVID-19 yesterday.

“Raoul Bellanova, currently with the Under-21 national team, has tested positive for COVID-19,” the club wrote.

U21: Iceland-Italy postponed

Italy Under-21’s European Championship qualifier against Iceland has been postponed.

The match scheduled for 16.30 UK time today has been postponed after two players and a member of the Azzurrini staff tested positive for COVID-19.

The Icelandic Football Federation confirmed the decision through at statement on their official website.

“The U21 match is postponed due to contagion of COVID in the Italian group,” the statement read.

Milan: Gabbia has COVID-19

Milan have officially announced defender Matteo Gabbia has tested positive for coronavirus whilst on international duty with Italy Under-21.

The 20-year-old centre-back was preparing to play his fourth match for the Azzurrini in Iceland this week, but Milan have confirmed he has tested positive during the trip.

“AC Milan have been informed that Matteo Gabbia, currently with the Italy Under-21 national squad in Iceland, has tested positive for COVID-19,” a statement from the Rossoneri read.

Bastoni: 'I'm fine'

Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni has reassured fans he’s ‘fine and in isolation’ and hopes to be back as soon as possible.

The centre-back returns from the Italy Under-21 camp today, after testing positive for coronavirus earlier this week.

Inter must decide if he should stay in isolation at Appiano or at his own home and have confirmed the defender is asymptomatic.

Bastoni has sent a message on social media, reassuring fans he’s well, thanking them for the support.

Inter bubble at Appiano?

Alessandro Bastoni reportedly returns to Milan today and Inter must decide between home isolation or creating a ‘bubble’ at Appiano.

Inter confirmed an asymptomatic Bastoni has tested positive for COVID-19 and Corriere della Sera reveals it gives Inter a big decision to make.

In these hours his quarantine residence will be communicated to the local health authority in Milan.

FIGC announce two positive in U21 squad

The FIGC has announced two cases of coronavirus in the Italy Under-21 squad ahead of the European Championship qualifier against Iceland.

Two players in the Under-21 squad have tested positive and the FIGC has revealed the persons in question are ‘completely asymptomatic’, but the training has now been cancelled and the ASL informed of the situation.

Italy announce venue change

Italy’s friendly against Moldova has been moved from Parma to Florence, while the venue hosting Netherlands in the Nations League is under review. 

A statement on the FIGC’s official website writes this change minimises travel time from Italy’s training base in Coverciano.

October promises to be a busy month for the Azzurri, who host Moldova on the 7th, before respectively taking on Netherlands and Poland on the 11th and 14th.

U21: Italy hit Armenia for six

Paolo Nicolato singled out Moise Kean for praise after the “spirited” Everton striker scored twice in Italy Under-21’s 6-0 thrashing of Armenia on Tuesday.

The European Under-21 Championship qualifier was due to kick off at 17:30 GMT in the Sicilian city of Catania, but adverse conditions meant the match could not get going until 20:00.

Nevertheless, it was worth the wait as the Azzurrini managed to almost emulate the seniors’ 9-1 demolition of Armenia last night.
