Smalling: 'Roma plan for Final'

Chris Smalling has revealed that Roma “focused on not conceding” against KAA Gent as they are “planning” to make the Europa League Final in Gdansk.

The Giallorossi bounced back from an early scare and Justin Kluivert scored the important away goal in the 1-1 draw at the GHELAMCO-arena in Belgium.

Roma came through after a 2-1 win on aggregate and Smalling admitted that they were only concerned about getting to the last 16 of the Europa League.

Fonseca: 'Absurd fixture list'

Paulo Fonseca feels Roma “showed quality under pressure” to knock Gent out of the Europa League, but he’s furious at the “absurd” fixture list.

The first leg had ended 1-0 thanks to Carles Perez, so Jonathan David’s goal had them all level on aggregate, but a Justin Kluivert away strike proved decisive in the Round of 32 tie.

“It’s not easy to play this type of game,” insisted Fonseca in his press conference.

The Giallorossi earned a 1-1 draw in Belgium with Justin Kluivert, going through to the Round of 16 with a 2-1 aggregate scoreline.

“We only won the first leg 1-0, so it was not easy, especially as we only played three days ago, but the important thing is that we qualified,” the Armenian told Roma TV.
