‘Simeone perfect for Fiorentina’

Coach Stefano Pioli believes Giovanni Simeone is “a perfect player” for his Fiorentina side.

The striker, son of Atletico Madrid Coach Diego, officially signed for the Viola from Genoa yesterday, for a reported €15m plus €3m in bonuses.

“He’s a perfect player for us, given his desire and hunger for goals,” Pioli told Corriere dello Sport.

“The directors are responsible [for the transfer campaign] but we’ve made very specific choices together.

Gattuso: 'I'm a nice guy, but not stupid'

Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso admits he “made a really bad impression” in his Joe Jordan clash. “I'm a nice guy, but not stupid.”

The veteran lost his cool after the final whistle of the 1-0 Champions League defeat to Tottenham and has been handed a five-match UEFA ban for going head-to-head with the assistant manager.

“I made a really bad impression, but respect is important for me,” Gattuso told Le Iene television programme.

Gattuso won't appeal 'excessive' ban

Gennaro Gattuso's agent believes UEFA have over-reacted by handing his client a four-match ban for his clash with Joe Jordan.

Already suspended for the return Champions League tie at Tottenham, Gattuso will now miss Milan's next five European matches in total after today's ruling.

"UEFA's punishment seems excessive to me because Gattuso immediately apologised, given that he knew he exaggerated," Andrea D'Amico told TMW.

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has leapt to the defence of “good man” Gennaro Gattuso following the row with Joe Jordan.

The Milan midfielder was involved in an altercation with the Tottenham assistant manager after the final whistle in this week's Champions League game.

Jordan hits back at Gattuso

Joe Jordan has rubbished claims made by Gennaro Gattuso's agent regarding why the two men clashed at San Siro in midweek.

The Milan midfielder confronted the Tottenham Coach both during and after the Champions League tie on Tuesday.

Gattuso's representative later claimed that the Scot had branded the player a 'f***ing Italian b***ard', an allegation Jordan has strongly denied.

Speaking exclusively to Sportsmail, Jordan said: "It's pathetic. Completely and utterly untrue and quite pathetic.
