Fiorentina: 'Evaluating Inter Biraghi bid'

Fiorentina director Giancarlo Antognoni confirms they “could not help but evaluate” an Inter offer for Cristiano Biraghi.

The left-back is left out of the Viola starting XI against Monza in today’s Coppa Italia Third Round match.

“When a club like Inter make an offer for Biraghi, we could not help but evaluate it,” Antognoni told Rai Sport.

Antognoni: 'Fiorentina are building'

Fiorentina director Giancarlo Antognoni praised new buys Kevin-Prince Boateng and Pol Lirola, insisting “players will get accustomed to staying.”

This is a period of upheaval for the club, as the Della Valle brothers sold up after 17 years to new patron Rocco Commisso.

“We have to repay the fans for their enthusiasm by forming a competitive squad and doing as best we can,” Antognoni told Radio Bruno Toscana.

There were two new signings yesterday, as Boateng and Lirola arrived from Sassuolo for a combined €17m.

Antognoni: 'Chiesa a young Bale'

Fiorentina director and club legend Giancarlo Antognoni has called Federico Chiesa “a young Gareth Bale who drives you crazy.”

The winger is only 21 years old, but has already notched up 100 competitive games in a Viola jersey, along with 11 senior Italy caps.

“The truth is that Chiesa is a European level player, not one traditionally associated with Italians,” Antognoni told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Fiorentina director Giancarlo Antognoni and Coach Stefano Pioli remember Davide Astori on their return to Udine. “He is always with us.”

On March 4, 2018, the Viola captain did not wake up in his hotel room the morning of the Serie A game against Udinese.

“The trip to Udinese will never be like the other games,” confessed director Antognoni on Sky Sport Italia.

Della Valle visits Fiorentina training

Fiorentina co-owner Andrea Della Valle visited the training ground ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Juventus.

The Viola face the league leaders tomorrow evening, in what is a huge match for people of the city, who see Juve as their most hated rival.

Today the patron visited the team at the training ground, along with President Mario Cognigni and director general Pantaleo Corvino.

Also present was club manager Giancarlo Antognoni, who is a Fiorentina legend with over 400 appearances.

Antognoni: Never seen a penalty like it

Fiorentina legend Giancarlo Antognoni fumed he had ‘never seen a penalty given’ like the one awarded to Inter on Tuesday.

Inter beat Fiorentina 2-1 courtesy of a controversial penalty, which Viola boss Stefano Pioli contested as Vitor Hugo ‘does nothing to go looking for the ball’.

“Chiesa showed he was a great player,” team manager Antognoni told Sky Sport Italia.
