Karsdorp: ‘I’ll prove myself’

Roma defender Rick Karsdorp hopes this will be “the right season to prove my worth”, after missing the whole of last season.

The Dutchman signed from Feyenoord last summer, but immediately had to undergo meniscus surgery.

That delayed his debut until October, and after playing 82 minutes against Crotone the full-back went off with pain in his other knee, later revealed to be a damaged cruciate ligament.

“I’m much better than last season,” Karsdorp told Roma TV.

That was on October 26 and the defender hasn’t been involved since, but it appears he’s nearing a return.

“Within two weeks I’ll be back with the group,” Karsdorp is quoted as saying by Leggo.

Juanfran on Roma radar

Roma are attempting to prise Juanfran away from Atletico Madrid in January, as his contract is due to expire this summer.

There are issues at right-back for the Giallorossi, as Rick Karsdorp has been injured practically since the moment he arrived, with Bruno Peres unconvincing, leaving only Alessandro Florenzi.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, director of sport Monchi has set his sights on Juanfran as a January addition to the squad.

EDF: Prevention the best cure

Eusebio Di Francesco has assured that Roma will “look for preventative solutions” to make sure they do not have another ACL victim.

Karsdorp became Roma’s latest casualty after he tore knee ligaments against Crotone midweek, prompting fitness coaches Ed Lippie and Darcy Norman to come under fire, but Di Francesco made it clear he would not play the blame game.

“Cause of Karsdorp’s injury? Beyond finding what caused it, we want to look for solutions,” the Coach said at a Press conference for Saturday’s clash with Bologna.
