Official: SPAL sign Kurtic

Atalanta have officially sold midfielder Jasmin Kurtic to SPAL, signing on to June 2021.

The Slovenia international made the move today, initially on loan with obligation to buy at the end of the season, so the payments are staggered.

Their statement initially read that he arrived on loan with “obligation to buy if there are specific conditions,” but that was later changed.

Kurtic turned 29 yesterday and has been in Italy since January 2011.

He has played for Palermo, Varese, Sassuolo, Torino, Fiorentina and Atalanta.

Chievo favourites for Kurtic

Jasmin Kurtic could leave Atalanta in the January transfer window, with interest from Chievo, SPAL and Cagliari.

The creative midfielder turns 29 next week and arrived from Sassuolo in the summer of 2015.

With Josip Ilicic coming to the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia, the amount of playing time afforded to Kurtic has dropped.

According to Sky Sport Italia, he is seeking a move elsewhere with Chievo Verona the hot favourites.

Other alternatives within Serie A are Cagliari and newly-promoted SPAL.

Ilicic: 'Never worked so hard!'

Josip Ilicic admits he’s never worked so hard as with Atalanta, but it’s paying off, even if he feels bad for fellow Slovenian Jasmin Kurtic.

The former Palermo and Fiorentina midfielder has found a new lease of life in Bergamo this season.

“I was really not accustomed to that and it was tough to deal with,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport of Gian Piero Gasperini’s summer training camp.

“However, I am reaping the rewards of that labour now. My legs are going at full speed.”

‘Atalanta in Europe? Why not…’

Atalanta midfielder Jasmin Kurtic says European qualification is well within his side’s reach – providing they can keep going until “the final few games”.

Atalanta have won three of their last four Serie A games to move level with Inter in fifth, leaving them in the mix for a first-ever Europa League appearance, but Kurtic is keen for the Orobici to remain grounded until the possibility becomes more concrete.

“Europe? At this point, why not?” the Slovenian told L’Eco di Bergamo.

‘Juventus crisis? Don’t believe it!’

Atalanta’s Jasmin Kurtic warns anyone who thinks Juventus are in crisis is “very much mistaken”.

The League leaders were thrashed 3-1 by Genoa at the weekend, and were 3-0 down after half an hour.

High-flying Atalanta travel to Turin on Saturday night, and the Slovenian midfielder is under no illusions about the task ahead of them.

“We have the right spirit to assert ourselves, even against Juventus,” Kurtic told l’Eco di Bergamo.

Medel three-match ban upheld

Inter have seen their appeal rejected, so Gary Medel will have to sit out the entire three-match Serie A ban.

The suspension was imposed after he was caught on camera lashing out at Jasmin Kurtic during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Atalanta.

Medel was seen swinging out an arm at Kurtic’s head, sending him to the ground.

As it was an off the ball incident and they were behind the referee, so not spotted by any of the officials, video evidence was valid in this case.

Inter lodged an appeal, but it was rejected this evening.
