Simoni has died at the age of 81

Former Lazio, Napoli and Inter coach Luigi Simoni died today at the age of 81.

The famous coach and former midfielder, who had been hospitalised after suffering a stroke in 2019, has died today on May 22, 2020.

Football has lost another hero in Gigi, who won the UEFA Cup with Inter in 1997-98 and experienced spells in the dugout of Napoli, Torino, Genoa, Lazio and Siena.

COVID-19 convinces Agazzi exit

Former Milan goalkeeper Michael Agazzi has left Serie B side Cremonese after they ‘failed to fully guarantee the protection of my health’.

Agazzi played 16 times for Cremonese before the season stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic, but he will not be adding to that tally.

“I’ve come to a painful decision, but one I’ve mulled over long and hard,” wrote the 35-year-old in a statement.

“I’ve realised that my beloved football has gone into the background as a result of the situation caused by COVID-19.

Rastelli 'not surprised' by Barella

Former Cagliari coach Massimo Rastelli says he’s ‘not surprised’ by Inter midfielder Nicolò Barella’s impressive performances with the Nerazzurri.

Barella moved from the Rossoblu to Inter last summer and has played 20 Serie A matches for the Nerazzurri, contributing one goal and four assists in the process.

Cremonese dreaming

As rumours emerge that Cremonese could be purchased by Massimo Moratti, Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall finds himself wallowing in nostalgia at the Stadio Giovanni Zini.

Troubled times often lead to daydreaming of better days. Fuel this with a suggestion by the media that this dream may one day become a reality and it sparks the synapses. This has been the case for me recently, following rumours in the press that ex-Inter President Massimo Moratti was interested in purchasing the Lombardy club Cremonese. This sent the mind racing back to the Cremonese sides of the past and especially those teams in the 1980s and 1990s that gave Italian Football so many great memories.

Moratti contemplates return to football?

Former Inter chief Massimo Moratti has, according to the Corriere dello Sport, shown interest in a return to football by taking over Serie B side Cremonese.

The Grigiorossi are currently fighting to survive in Serie B under the ownership of Giovanni Arvedi and the newspaper claims that the former Inter chief and 74-year-old Moratti could be interested in taking the club of his hands.

Arvedi has invested a lot in Cremonese but has not managed to lift them to the top of Serie B and the report has indicated that he could be interested in selling the club.

Serie B: Bisoli new Cremonese coach

Cremonese have announced the appointment of Pierpaolo Bisoli as their new head coach and the successor to Massimo Rastelli.

The Serie B side decided to part ways with the former Cagliari coach as the team currently sit 17th in the second tier of Italian football.

They are currently in the playout positions, with a gap of five points up to Ascoli on safe ground and have asked Bisoli to help them save the club.

Serie B: Cremonese sack Rastelli again

Serie B side Cremonese have officially fired coach Massimo Rastelli again and are due to bring in Pierpaolo Bisoli.

The decision was made following last night’s 3-2 home defeat to Empoli.

Cremonese have slipped to fourth from bottom, so are now in the relegation zone.

This is the second time Cremonese have sacked Rastelli, as he was already in charge from November 2018 to October 2019, then brought back on January 8.

Coronavirus reaches Serie B too

The Coronavirus panic has now reached Serie B, as today’s game between Ascoli and Cremonese has officially been called off, with more potentially to follow.

Until now, there have been 42 matches postponed in the Lombardy and Veneto region from the amateur leagues, youth levels and some in semi-professional Serie D.

This morning, Serie C fixture Piacenza-Sambenedettese was also suspended due to the spread of the virus.

Inzaghi: 'Jony already important'

Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi praised Jony for having an “excellent game” against Cremonese and revealed he “received the answers” he was looking for.

The Biancocelesti beat the Serie B side 4-0 at the Olimpico on Tuesday and Inzaghi said the mentality of his side will lead to further improvement during the second half of the season.

“I received the answers I was looking for in a game we really cared about,” Inzaghi told the reporters after the match. “We approached this game in a good way, we have prepared for this match.

Acerbi: 'No match'

Francesco Acerbi revealed there’s always “a risk” against a Serie B team after beating Cremonese and expects Lazio to fight for “something important”.

The Biancocelesti resumed their title defence with a comfortable 4-0 win against the side from the second tier in Italy and Acerbi was happy that his Lazio “turned up” and has claimed “it was no match”.
