U21: Di Biagio or Evani?

Gigi Di Biagio faces competition from Under-20 boss Alberigo Evani for the role of Italy Under-21 Coach in 2017-19.

The Azzurrini reached the semi-final of the European Under-21 Championship this summer, but suffered heavy 3-1 losses to both Slovakia and Spain.

Di Biagio came under fire for failing to get the best out of an excellent squad, particularly with his use of rotation and lack of a clear tactical identity.

Assessing Ventura's Azzurri

Giampiero Ventura's first year at the helm of the Nazionale built a talented squad, but left it disjointed, writes Andrea Tallarita.

If you believe in football Voodoo, then you'll know that Italy will reach the Final of the next World Cup, and lose. This would match the pattern the Azzurri have set down since 1970, of reaching the Final once every 12 years, alternating one win and one loss.

Thus, Coach Giampiero Ventura has one devil of a tall order for his first international tournament. And yet some are expecting the opposite, considering his lack of experience (and that of his favourite players), with fears that he may repeat the embarrassing performances of 2010 and 2014.

Juventus offer €20m for Ceballos

Radio Sevilla claim that Juventus offered €20m for Betis star Dani Ceballos, but he prefers Real Madrid.

The midfielder hit the headlines with his performances for Spain in the European Under-21 Championship.

Although he has a €15m release clause in his contract, Real Madrid are reported to have already bid well above that at €20m.

Juve have seemingly done the same, considering the extra €5m as commissions for his agent and entourage.

Conti perfect for Milan

Andrea Conti is a modern day full-back, offering Milan energy and purpose in the final third, writes Nick Valerio

If a winger ended the season with eight strikes and five assists, it would be considered a relative success. A double-figured contribution should be the minimum expectation for a midfielder, but for a defender to achieve such numbers, as is the case of Andrea Conti, is extraordinary. He was the most prolific defender in Europe's top five leagues last term.

Zoff: 'Donnarumma dismal Euros'

Goalkeeping legend Dino Zoff warned Gianluigi Donnarumma “didn’t get a thing right” at the Under-21 Euros and should stay at Milan.

The 18-year-old shot-stopper had one of the worst shots-to-goals-conceded ratios of the entire tournament, even though Italy reached the semi-final.

It’s perhaps understandable considering the controversy over his Milan contract refusal, Real Madrid links and fan protests throwing fake dollars at him during a game.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus have already begun a bidding war for Spain Under-21 sensation Dani Ceballos, going well beyond the €15m Betis release clause.

The midfielder was named Player of the Tournament at the 2017 European Under-21 Championship, despite Spain only taking the silver medal after a Final defeat to Germany.

Mundo Deportivo reported today that Juventus had approached Real Betis and were prepared to pay at least the €15m clause.

Juventus have offered to pay the €15m release clause for Betis star Dani Ceballos, according to Mundo Deportivo, but Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid also want him.

The Spanish source states that Juve have contacted Betis directly to propose activating that clause.
