Caldara: I've missed playing

Mattia Caldara admits he has ‘missed’ playing for Milan and Italy but is ready to make up for lost time after his long injury layoff.

Caldara joined Milan from Juventus as part of the Leonardo Bonucci exchange last summer but was desperately unlucky with injuries in 2018-19, making just two appearances for the Rossoneri.

In the spring, he ruptured knee ligaments after having sat out most of the campaign with an Achilles problem, and he has only just resumed training.

Official: Caldara out 5-6 months

Mattia Caldara is expected to be out of action for “five to six months” after Milan confirmed surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

“The Club announces that Mattia Caldara has picked up an injury following a collision in training yesterday. The defender underwent keyhole surgery today to repair the damage to his anterior crucial ligament,” read a statement.

Milan: Caldara's season over?

Mattia Caldara’s season is reportedly over after the Milan defender suffered a suspected knee injury in training.

According to Sky Sport Italia and Gazzetta dello Sport, Caldara left training in crutches on Thursday.

The defender will now undergo tests, where he is expected to learn that he cannot take part in any of Milan’s four remaining Serie A games.

The 24-year-old only joined the Rossoneri from Juventus last summer but has played just twice this season due to an Achilles setback.

Milan to sacrifice Romagnoli?

Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli could be sacrificed to satisfy FFP if the club doesn’t qualify for next season’s Champions League, it’s reported.

According to Tuttosport, the 24-year-old is currently deemed unsellable, but if the Rossoneri don’t finish in the top four they could be forced to cash in on him.

The Milanese club would want something in the region of €70m-€80m for the Italy international, who they bought from Roma for €25m in 2015.

Milan defender Mattia Caldara feels he ‘owes the club’ after his long injury layoff and wants to help them qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Caldara has only just started turning out for Milan after an injury-plagued start to his spell at San Siro, and he revealed just how important finishing in the top four would be to him.

“For me, it would mean a lot,” the 24-year-old told Sport Mediaset.

Report: Caldara for Milan-Lazio

Milan Coach Gennaro Gattuso is reportedly planning to give centre-back Mattia Caldara his first Serie A start of the season against Lazio.

After their defeat to Juventus, which was their third in four games, Milan are now preparing for the big clash with top-four rivals Lazio.

Goal.com reports Gattuso is ready to ring the changes ahead of Saturday’s match, among them the former Atalanta stopper replacing Mateo Musacchio in the heart of the Rossoneri defence.

Mattia Caldara is in Milan’s squad for their Serie A match against Chievo on Saturday after a five-month layoff.

Caldara had been out since October with an Achilles injury, but the defender is included for the trip to Chievo.

The 24-year-old moved to Milan as part of the deal that took Leonardo Bonucci back to Juventus last summer.

Caldara makes Milan comeback

Mattia Caldara returned to the field in a Milan jersey, albeit for the youth team, after five and a half months on the treatment table.

The former Atalanta defender hadn’t played since September 20, against Dudelange in the Europa League.

He had already missed much of the season with muscular issues, then suffered a partial lesion of the Achilles tendon in October.

Caldara stepped out in the starting XI of today’s Milan Primavera team this morning, a standard first step towards full recovery.

Milan handed Caldara boost

Mattia Caldara has confirmed that he is ‘not far away’ from being cleared to resume his Milan career.

An Achilles injury has limited Caldara to just one Milan appearance since arriving as part of the deal that sent Leonardo Bonucci back to Juventus last summer, but the defender believes he is close to making a full recovery.

“We’re a group who always stick together, even at times of difficulty,” he told reporters.

“We all love each other in the dressing room. Work always pays and we’re on the right track.
