Ferrero: Samp want Defrel, Eder…

Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero confirms his club want Roma striker Gregoire Defrel, while Inter ‘continue to offer us Eder for Dennis Praet’.

Ferrero gave an update on Samp’s business in the transfer market to Il Secolo XIX, from who will replace Emiliano Viviano and Lucas Torreira to reinforcements in attack.

“We still have to sign a goalkeeper, and from what I’ve been told, the deal for Jandrei can go through, but things often change in the market,” he told the newspaper.

Torreira to Arsenal not imminent?

Lucas Torreira’s move from Sampdoria to Arsenal is not imminent despite Uruguay’s elimination from the World Cup, according to reports.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with the midfielder throughout the summer, with the transfer delayed due to the South American nation’s involvement at the tournament in Russia.

With Uruguay’s elimination confirmed after they were beaten 2-0 in Friday’s quarter-final against France, it was thought the deal would quickly be made official.

There were plenty of Serie A representatives in the 22 starting in Sochi, including Matias Vecino, Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Torreira, Diego Laxalt, Martin Caceres and Joao Mario, but Milan forward Andre Silva was dropped to the bench.

Uruguay took first blood with a sensational diving header from former Napoli and Palermo striker Edinson Cavani on the end of a Luis Suarez cross at the back post.

Torreira ideal for Arsenal

Lucas Torreira is the ideal player to improve Arsenal and represents another smart Sampdoria sale, writes Adam Summerton.

If you ask most people in North London what ‘Fray Bentos’ means to them, I’d imagine the most common reply you’d get would be ‘pies’, and with good reason, it’s an iconic British brand.

But it’s a little known fact that the food manufacturer is named after a Uruguayan port city where the products were originally processed and packaged until the 1960s. It is also the birth place of a certain Lucas Torreira, who could also be a household name in England soon.

According to Sportitalia, Arsenal don’t want to risk the price-tag rising further with a good performance in the tournament.
