Gobbi retires from football

Former Parma, Chievo and Fiorentina left-back Massimo Gobbi has announced his retirement from professional football.

Gobbi played just 17 times for Parma last season and turns 39 in October.

“Thirty years ago, my first season as a footballer ended...” he wrote on Instagram.

“My career ended 30 years later. It was a wonderful journey! Thank you to my family. Thank you to those who were there then and are also there now.

Official: Gobbi joins Parma

Parma have officially signed left-back Massimo Gobbi, who was a free agent after his experience at Chievo.

The 37-year-old put pen to paper on a one-term contract, due to expire in June 2019.

It is a return to the Stadio Tardini for Gobbi, who already played 159 games for the club from 2010 to their bankruptcy in 2015.

He spent the last three seasons at Chievo, but his contract with the club expired last month.

Calabria: 'I am fine'

Milan defender Davide Calabria thanked fans for their messages after his frightening head injury. “We’re doing all the necessary tests.”

The full-back was stretchered off after a nasty collision with Chievo defender Massimo Gobbi during the final minutes of Wednesday night’s 4-1 victory.

He was kept in hospital overnight for observation after being diagnosed with head trauma, but said to be awake and lucid throughout the experience.

Calabria in hospital with head trauma

Milan defender Davide Calabria is being kept in hospital for observation after suffering head trauma in the 4-1 win at Chievo.

In the final minutes of the Serie A victory on Wednesday evening, Calabria had a nasty collision with Massimo Gobbi and came off far worse.

He was on the ground for some time before being stretchered off with his head and neck immobilised.

A statement from Milan confirmed Calabria was taken to hospital for tests, which showed head and facial trauma.

Chievo man fractures rib

Chievo full-back Massimo Gobbi has fractured his rib during a training ground collision.

The 36-year-old left-back had x-rays that showed a fracture of the seventh rib on his left side.

He is now expected to miss both remaining Serie A games of 2016 against Sampdoria and Roma.

This season Gobbi has made 15 top flight appearances for Chievo, scoring one goal.

Maran explains Chievo twist

Rolando Maran explained the tactical adjustment that allowed Chievo to beat Cagliari 1-0 today.

“We had been without the win for too long, but we really wanted and earned it,” Coach Maran told Sky Sport Italia.

Massimo Gobbi scored his first goal in over three years, a great run from midfield.

“I am happy for him, as he stayed sharp to the end and was able to get the ball in the net. Cagliari took away all the spaces, so we struggled to begin with.
