Conte: ‘Verratti won’t be risked’

Antonio Conte says Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti won’t be risked in Italy’s match against Norway.

The midfielder sat out training yesterday having suffered a knock in the win over Azerbaijan, and will play no part against the Norwegians.

“He took a knock to the calf,” Conte explained in his pre-match Press conference, when the subject of Verratti was raised.

Conte fires Italy warning

Italy CT Antonio Conte warns ‘I won’t call-up someone who has scored two goals or had a few good performances’.

“Going to the European Championships will be a unique experience,” Conte said in his pre-match Press conference.

Agent: ‘Insigne won’t be excluded’

Lorenzo Insigne’s agent says suggestions he could be ostracised by Italy are “absurd”.

The Napoli playmaker pulled out of the Azzurri squad to face Azerbaijan and Norway with an injury, with suggestions CT Antonio Conte was not happy, and could leave him out of future squads.

“Guessing the squad for the European Championships eight months in advance is a bit much,” Fabio Andreotti scoffed, speaking to Radio Marte.

‘Italy aiming for semi-finals’

FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio says Italy are targeting the Euro 2016 semi-finals “at the minimum.”

The Azzurri sealed their place in France with a win over Azerbaijan, and conclude the qualifying campaign against Norway tomorrow.

“We have to get to the last four at a minimum,” Tavecchio said at a Press conference.

“Then we’ll see where we go. Last night we saw what happened with Germany and Holland, it’s not a bed of roses. We’ve qualified with a game to spare, that means we’re worth something.

“We hope to receive a call-up from Conte soon,” Joao Santos admitted in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

Vecino: ‘I’d reject Italy call’

Fiorentina’s Matias Vecino would reject an Italy call-up - “three years isn’t enough to feel Italian”.

“If [CT Antonio] Conte called me, I’d say no,” Vecino admitted in an interview with Corriere Fiorentino.

“I know he’s following me, but three years isn’t enough to feel Italian.”

“They held Croatia, and then Norway, and they’re our direct rivals. They’re a good team, they’ve grown a lot.

Conte: ‘Pirlo injury not serious’

Antonio Conte assures Andrea Pirlo’s injury is “nothing serious” but it’s “unthinkable” he could play tomorrow.

“During the warm-up match, Andrea went into a challenge with a teammate,” Conte explained to Sky.
