Conte: 'Roma-Juve great ad'

Antonio Conte felt Roma-Juventus was “a great advert for Serie A,” while Malta are not to be taken for granted.

Last season’s top two went head-to-head at the weekend in an entertaining game, which Roma won 2-1.

“It was a great advert for Serie A. There was great fair play on the field and in the stands, plus quality of football.”

Patrice Evra was sent off and a section of the Roma ultras refused to chant or celebrate in protest at enhanced security measures.

Conte's MLS endorsement

Selecting Sebastian Giovinco and Andrea Pirlo, Antonio Conte made a significant statement about the relevance of Major League  Soccer, writes Marco D'Onofrio.

Antonio Conte made history with his progressive nature at Juventus, and on Saturday he did the same with the Azzurri. For the first time ever, two players based in North America's Major League Soccer were called up to represent Italy during European qualifiers against Malta and Bulgaria.

Conte may not have fully realized the extent of power and influence he wielded regarding the future of MLS, but the tactician made an important statement when he selected both Sebastian Giovinco and Andrea Pirlo.

Conte: 'Subs still ok for Italy'

Antonio Conte adjusted his warning that those who don’t play for their clubs won’t be called for Italy, including Mario Balotelli.

The Coach had pointed out this week that he’d find it difficult to call up players who spent most of their club careers on the bench.

“This time we’ve had only two Serie A rounds, so I had to call players based on their performances last season,” noted Conte in today’s Press conference.

Conte: 'Verratti's best position'

Antonio Conte said he could change Marco Verratti’s position for Italy to fit with Andrea Pirlo against Malta.

It kicks off at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence on Thursday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

“We worked well over the last two and a half days, focusing mainly on tactics,” explained the Coach in a Press conference.

“We tried various different options, so I do have a few alternatives that I will decide on tomorrow morning. I have one decision to make in defence, one in midfield and one in attack.”

Quagliarella: 'I want an Azzurri spot'

Fabio Quagliarella feels he can still 'earn a spot' within the Azzurri, while Torino need to 'take it slow'.

The World Cup 2010 veteran was called back by Coach Antonio Conte in September of last year, but failed to garner a call-up for the current international break.

Even so, his strong start to the season with Torino allows him an optimistic approach.

“I believe I can cut out a space for myself, I feel the Azzurri colours very strongly,” he said, as reported today by La Gazzetta dello Sport.”

'No future for Azzurri, but Balo...'

International veteran Cesare Prandelli has mixed words on the Azzurri: 'I see no future for la Nazionale, but Mario Balotelli has really grown'.

The 58-year-old was at the helm of the Italian national team for the successful Euro 2012 expedition, in which he reached the final, and the disastrous World Cup 2014, which saw him crashing out at the groups.

In an interview with Radio Anch'io Sport, the Coach revealed a deep pessimism about the national team's prospects.

“It's hard to see a future for la Nazionale,” he said.

'Conte for Azzurri, win or lose'

FIGC director Carlo Tavecchio says Coach Antonio Conte can stay at the helm of the Azzurri, regardless of whether he wins or loses.

The triple Scudetto winner with Juventus has a contract with the national team that is due to expire after Euro 2016 and it's unclear yet whether he intends to renew it.

Speaking to Sky Sports after a meeting in Rome, Tavecchio said the decision came down to the Coach and that there was no problem on the federation's side.

Conte on Balotelli and Giovinco

Italy Coach Antonio Conte is open to a Mario Balotelli recall, plus tracks Sebastian Giovinco and Andrea Pirlo.

Balotelli moved to Milan this week on a one-season loan after a dismal spell at Liverpool, so hasn’t featured for the Azzurri since the 2014 World Cup.

“The same is true for him as everyone else. The doors of the Nazionale are not closed to anybody,” declared Conte today.

“It’s up to Balotelli now to earn his place with his performances and behaviour.”

“Conte will decide,” Tavecchio told assembled media at an event in Taormina.
