Balzaretti set for SPAL?

Former Roma and Italy defender Federico Balzaretti is reportedly set to become SPAL’s next sporting director.

SPAL are looking for a new SD after Davide Vagnati moved to Torino earlier in the month, but Calciomercato.it claims they have found their man.

As per the website, Balzaretti is in ‘absolute pole position’ to take over from Vagnati, ticking the boxes of a ‘young, confident and available’ executive.

The ex-Juventus and Palermo full-back helped Italy finish runners-up at Euro 2012 and subsequently signed for Roma.

Balzaretti: 'Walked off after Totti magic'

Federico Balzaretti recalls the unique experience of training with Francesco Totti at Roma. “You knew what was coming, but he’d get it in the goal anyway. Once he scored from 50 metres and we all walked off.”

The former full-back spoke to DAZN about his time with the Giallorossi and specifically their historic captain.

“Every day at the training ground it was like his lob against Inter at San Siro. The incredible thing was, you knew what was coming, but he’d get it in the goal anyway.

He won’t be out of a job for long, as SPAL have already made the former full-back an offer.

“I am trying to bring Balzaretti to SPAL, as I want to make our staff even stronger, enriching it with new important skillsets,” Mattioli told Il Tempo.

Arsenal not only Monchi option

Monchi is increasingly likely to leave Roma at the end of the season, but Arsenal aren’t his only options, as PSG and Sevilla also want the transfer guru.

Spanish and English papers are adamant that Arsenal offered him the role of technical director for next term and expect Monchi to accept.

It would be a reunion with former Sevilla Coach Unai Emery and Arsenal would even be prepared to pay the €1m release clause in his Roma contract, which runs to June 2021.

Bojinov: 'Nedved like a brother'

Former Juventus forward Valeri Bojinov admits Pavel Nedved was 'like a brother to him' during his time with the Bianconeri.

The 30-year-old also recalled the day when Juve beat Crotone whilst in Serie B

"We trained with [Didier] Deschamps," the Bulgarian told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I scored after ten minutes with a [Marcelo] Zalayeta assist, the second I think [Federico] Balzaretti gave to me. It was a great day.

"But the best thing was the joy in people's eyes to see Juve, not so much the 3-0 win for us.
