Biraghi: 'Mature Fiorentina'

Cristiano Biraghi felt Fiorentina showed maturity to battle it out for a point against Napoli. “We caused them a lot of problems.”

Alban Lafont and Alex Meret performed heroics in goal, while the Partenopei were also very wasteful in the 0-0 draw.

“We were up against a side that is challenging for the Scudetto and we caused them a lot of problems. We had chances to score, so did they, but we kept a clean sheet and gave our all,” the Viola defender told Sky Sport Italia.

Biraghi agent on Milan talks

Cristiano Biraghi’s agent confirms the Fiorentina defender had been in talks with Milan, but “the matter is never over with.”

The 26-year-old left-back has earned four senior caps for Italy, scoring one decisive goal in the Nations League against Poland.

His agent Mario Giuffredi spoke to Telelombardia and was asked about links with Milan.

“The matter is never over with. Over the summer we spoke to (then director Massimiliano) Mirabelli and (Coach Gennaro) Gattuso, but then the club owners and directors changed.”

Biraghi to extend Fiorentina deal

Italy left-back Cristiano Biraghi has reportedly agreed to extend his contract with Fiorentina.

According to Eurosport, Biraghi will sign an improved contract worth €1m a season after tax, taking him through to 2021.

Fiorentina bought the defender for just €2m in the summer of 2017 from Pescara, but he has gone on to become Italy’s first-choice left-back.

The 26-year-old, whose market value has risen to €20m, has also been linked with the likes of Milan and Atletico Madrid, as well as a return to Inter.

Serie A free kicks in 15-year low

Only three free kicks have been scored in Serie A this season, but Andrea Pirlo insists the 15-year low is only ‘a bad run’.

Despite the League being littered with set-piece specialists, only Nicolo Barella, Cristiano Biraghi and Aleksandar Kolarov have found the target in the opening 10 weeks of 2018-19.

Not since 2003 have there been so few free kicks scored, and Pirlo was quizzed on why the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lorenzo Insigne and Hakan Calhanoglu had yet to get off the mark.

However, calciomercato.com reports that a meeting took place last week between the defender’s agents and Viola sporting director Pantaleo Corvino, with a verbal agreement to renew.

Agent: ‘Biraghi the new Grosso’

Cristiano Biraghi's agent insists Inter “didn’t make a mistake” in getting rid of his client, who he calls “the new Fabio Grosso”.

The Fiorentina left-back scored his first goal for Italy on Sunday night, grabbing a late winner against Poland in the Nations League.

The 26-year-old came through the Nerazzurri youth system, but after several loans and co-ownerships he joined Pescara and then the Viola.

New deals for Fiorentina duo

Fiorentina are working on contract extensions for Giovanni Simeone and Cristiano Biraghi to June 2023.

Both made their international debuts this week, Simeone finding the net in his first appearance for Argentina, while Biraghi started the 1-1 Nations League draw between Italy and Poland.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Viola are in negotiations to extend their current contracts to June 2023.

Naturally, these will include substantial pay rises, especially as 26-year-old Biraghi only earns €600,000 per year.
