Italian director and lifelong Milan fan Pupi Avati made the remarkable confession that he will ‘cheer against’ the Rossoneri until Stefano Pioli is sacked.

The award-winning movie director had been supportive of the coach until recently, insisting that he was “in love” with Pioli, who won the Scudetto in 2022.

However, he explained the reasons behind the complete about-face in a surprisingly bitter interview with Rai Radio Uno.

“The moment the club liquidated Paolo Maldini in such a ruthless and inhuman fashion, with Stefano Pioli not saying a word, sitting immobile on his bench, he showed a lack of gratitude.

“If there is one thing I cannot abide, it is ingratitude and a lack of loyalty. So I cannot cheer on this Milan side as long as Pioli is there, I really can’t do it.

“I hope that sooner or later he leaves the club. When Milan play now, I always cheer against them.”

Director and club icon Paolo Maldini was fired in the summer of 2023.

As for Avati, he is most famous for the movies The House With Laughing Windows and Zeder.

He won two David di Donatello awards and five silver ribbons.
