Serie A to resume from Week 25?

The Lega Serie A is meeting today to discuss how to resume the season and it’s very likely they’ll play the remaining Week 25 fixtures on June 13-14.

When the campaign was interrupted in mid-March, some Week 25 games were called off due to the coronavirus pandemic, which at the time was largely localised in the northern regions.

Therefore, Atalanta-Sassuolo, Verona-Cagliari, Inter-Sampdoria and Torino-Parma were postponed.

The fixture list got back on track with all of Week 26 played, albeit some of them behind closed doors.

Pogba must take Juventus pay cut

Juventus have reportedly told Paul Pogba he needs to take a pay cut if he wants to leave Manchester United for a return to Turin.

According to Tuttosport and the Corriere dello Sport, the Bianconeri intend to introduce a salary cap of €9m per season for new signings.

That means Pogba’s current €12m per year wage would go outside their financial plans, so he’d have to cut it down.

Another issue is with the transfer fee, as Manchester United are continuing to ask for at least €100m.

Zoff: 'Extra substitutes favour Juventus'

Dino Zoff believes Juventus will have the advantage in this unusual end to the Serie A season, especially ‘with the option to use five substitutes.’

The rule change has been accepted in Germany and is likely to be used in Italy as well, because teams are forced to play at the height of summer after three months of lockdown, so are more prone to injury.

Following his pick of the greatest Argentinian and Brazilian XIs to grace Serie A in the last 50 years, Richard Hall looks at what France brought to Italy’s top flight…

GK: Sebastien Frey (Inter, Verona, Parma, Fiorentina, Genoa)

Sebastien Frey was iconic for anyone watching football in the late 1990s and the early 2000s. His shock of dyed blond hair made him instantly recognisable and it is easy to forget how good he was. His composure, athleticism and good footwork did well for him at Inter, Parma, Fiorentina and Genoa. It was perhaps for the Viola that he was at his absolute best.

RB: Lilian Thuram (Parma, Juventus)

'Arthur wants Barca stay 100%'

A member of Arthur’s inner circle has insisted that the Juventus target ‘wants to stay at Barcelona 100 percent’ this summer.

It had been speculated that Arthur was coming around to the idea of swapping clubs with Miralem Pjanic, given Barca’s public pursuit of the Bosnian and their apparent attempts to push him to Juve.

However, a source close to the Brazilian told ESPN: “Arthur wants to stay at Barcelona 100 percent, he has no intention of changing clubs.

Remembering Gaetano Scirea

Juventus hero Gaetano Scirea, the classy World Cup winner who picked up seven Scudetti with the Bianconeri, would have turned 67 today.

Scirea tragically lost his life in a car crash while working for Juve as a scout in Poland, aged just 36.

One Sunday in September 1989, the Old Lady had sent him on a mission to study UEFA Cup opponents Gornik Zabrze. The terrible weather in Poland caused the crash and Gaetano never came back.

No Higuain in Napoli's Argentine XI

Napoli have left former striker Gonzalo Higuain out of their all-time greatest XI of Argentine players.

Higuain scored 91 goals in 146 appearances for Napoli between 2013 and 2016, even setting the Serie A record for most goals scored in a single season during the 2015-16 campaign with 36.

However, he left for Juventus in a then-Italian record €90m deal just months later, burning all his bridges with the club in the process.
