Serie A gets Ronaldomania

Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival is not just a game-changer for Juventus, but for all of Serie A, off the field as much as on it, argues Emmet Gates.

Juventus fans were outraged. The club had again increased the prices of season tickets. This time however, there was a serious hike, with tickets rising by as much as €300. To sit in the Curva, generally amongst the cheapest seats in any stadium in Italy, was now costing in excess of €600, by far and away the highest in Serie A.

Fans protested, and many argued that for the hike in prices they wanted to see a Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi playing in black and white. Fast forward two weeks later and Juve, incredibly, delivered.

Mendes pushes Milinkovic to Madrid

Agent Jorge Mendes is now trying to broker a €100m Real Madrid proposal for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, claim Sky Sport Italia.

The representative is fresh from bringing Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Cancelo to Juventus.

Despite not actually being Milinkovic-Savic’s agent, Mendes is still getting involved in the situation and could help Real Madrid replace Ronaldo.

Transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio insists Mendes is trying to broker a €100m proposal, although that is below the €120-150m asking price set by Lazio.

World Cup: Croatia thank Perisic-Mandzukic

Ivan Perisic cancelled out an England free kick and set up Mario Mandzukic’s extra time winner, as Croatia will face France in the World Cup Final.

This was a huge opportunity for both nations and a relatively unexpected one, as Croatia had reached the semi-final only once before in 1998, while England got there only in 1966 and 1990. Gareth Southgate kept the same line-up again, while Marcelo Brozovic stepped into the XI with Mario Mandzukic, Ivan Perisic and Ivan Strinic, plus Sime Vrsaljko recovered from injury.
