Rai chief apologises to Juventus

New director of Rai 2, Carlo Freccero, has apologised to Juventus for claiming they “control all the VAR” and assured he was “joking.”

During his presentation Press conference as chief of the second biggest State-run television station in Italy, Freccero had made some remarkable comments that hit the headlines.

Juventus-Torino without commentary

RAI Sport will show tonight’s Juventus-Torino game without commentary, in protest over subscription-based television.

The Italian state broadcaster didn’t win the rights to show the World Cup, and doesn’t have any Serie A matches as the rights are split between Sky and Mediaset.

In the UK events such as the World Cup and the Wimbledon tennis championships have to be broadcast for free, and there is a similar law in Italy.

Rai: ‘Commentators not biased’

Rai Sport director Gabriele Romagnoli calls Napoli’s criticism of the network “absolutely exaggerated”.

The Partenopei were incensed by the refereeing in their defeat to Juventus on Tuesday, with the club’s official Twitter account declaring “if you’re watching the match on Rai, do it with the sound off”.

“It’s absolutely exaggerated, a hot-headed reaction,” Romagnoli told Gazzetta dello Sport.
