Astori: ‘Magical Viola night’

Fiorentina defender Davide Astori reflects on a ‘magical night’ against Inter, but dismisses Scudetto talk.

La Viola crushed the Nerazzurri 4-1 at San Siro to end their 100 per cent winning start and go top of the table on Sunday.

“It was a magical night,” Astori said to FirenzeViola.it.

“We didn’t celebrate much because on Thursday we’re expecting another very important challenge against Belenenses and we’re taking it very seriously because we got off on the wrong foot.

Astori: 'Fiorentina can surprise'

Davide Astori said “the very least Fiorentina must achieve is Europa League qualification, but we can surprise people.”

The Viola started with a 2-0 victory over Milan, but fumbled a lead to lose 3-1 at Torino.

Astori: ‘Napoli lost sight’

Davide Astori says Napoli ‘lost sight of the real negotiation’ earlier this summer, but praises Fiorentina’s ‘great potential.’

The centre-back had appeared close to a move to the Partenopei a few weeks ago, before pulling out at a late stage of negotiations and joining La Viola.

"At one point with Napoli we lost sight of the real negotiation and began favouring other aspects and only drawing attention to my refusal,” he said to Tuttosport.

Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade confirms interest in Dnipro striker Nikola Kalinic and Liverpool’s Fabio Borini.

Official: Astori joins Fiorentina

Fiorentina have officially completed the signature of Davide Astori from Cagliari on loan with an obligation to buy.

The defender spent last season at Roma, but the Giallorossi opted not to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old was then in talks with Napoli, but a deal collapsed after a disagreement over image rights, and the centre-back has now joined the Viola.

Davide Astori has reportedly completed his Fiorentina medical and should soon complete his move to the Viola. 

The defender arrived in Florence yesterday and is expected to secure a €6m switch from Cagliari.

Astori spent last season on loan at Roma, but the Giallorossi chose not to take up the option to sign him, before a deal with Napoli fell through over image rights.

Brazilian full-back Gilberto is also undergoing his medical today and should be announced as a new arrival from Botafogo later today.

He was greeted at the train station in Florence by fans and a camera crew from the official club website.
