Sala: 'Steps forward for new San Siro'

Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala confirmed they have “made significant steps forward” with Inter and Milan over the stadium project.

The two clubs put forward two ambitious designs for a new stadium, to be built essentially in the car park of the current Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, tearing down the iconic existing structure.

This was considered too extreme for the council and local residents, so they have been in negotiations to find some common ground on how to progress.

Mayor: 'Reduced capacity Stadio Meazza'

Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala urges Inter and Milan to work with the local authorities, as a “reduced capacity Stadio Meazza would be a good solution.”

The two clubs presented their ambitious plans to knock down the current Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and construct a new joint arena next to it, essentially where the car park of the stadium now stands.

A vote in the local council backed plans to revamp the San Siro area of the city, but shot down attempts to eliminate the Stadio Meazza entirely.

Milan Mayor welcomes Atalanta to San Siro

Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala is “very much in favour” of Atalanta playing their Champions League home fixtures at San Siro.

The idea was floated after a UEFA inspection confirmed the restructuring work in Bergamo won’t be completed in time for the tournament.

Atalanta had used Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium for their Europa League home games, but San Siro is closer to Bergamo and will only be used for continental fixtures by Inter this season.

“I’m not very optimistic though. I’m a bit down about the whole thing.”

Mayor: 'Inter more solid than Milan'
