Galliani: Montella over De Boer

Adriano Galliani claims Milan appointed Vincenzo Montella over Frank de Boer, despite admitting the latter “doesn’t seem so bad to me”.

Speaking to Milan TV after Tuesday’s 2-0 win against Lazio, Galliani explained how Montella beat off competition from De Boer – who ultimately took up employment at arch-rivals Inter – former caretaker Cristian Brocchi, then-Empoli boss Marco Giampaolo and two “giants with great experience”.

“We went so many years without ever changing Coaches,” the joint-CEO said.

The Colombian striker scored the opener against Lazio last night, taking his tally for the Serie A season to five goals in five games.

“Bacca is one of those who counts, like Higuain and Icardi,” Galliani told Milan TV.

“Coach Vincenzo Montella? He knows how to get a team playing, and that’s the thing that Silvio Berlusconi, the fans and myself really like. Let’s continue like this.

Chinese conglomerate Sino-Europe Sports is in the process of buying the Rossoneri, with the deal expected to be closed by the end of the year.

It had been assumed that the new owners would appoint an entirely new board, with Marco Fassone to take over as the club’s CEO.

Joint-CEO Adriano Galliani currently handles transfer business, and was expected to move on but it appears his departure is not set in stone.

Milan search for a defender

Milan Coach Vincenzo Montella has reportedly asked for a defender, but it’ll have to be a low cost option.

The Rossoneri are in the middle of a takeover, and the impending Chinese ownership has had a serious impact on the transfer strategy.

Outgoing President Silvio Berlusconi is reluctant to invest heavily before he leaves, while the money from the new owners won’t arrive until they take over.

The Chinese group did put in €30m as part of the preliminary agreement, and that is what the Diavolo have largely been working from.

Galliani, Lady B to leave Milan

Adriano Galliani and Barbara Berlusconi will have to leave Milan once the Chinese ownership takes over.

This is not the first time that rumours of an important renewal within the club's higher echelons are circulated.

With the closing of the sale to be ratified on September 9, and a preliminary contract already signed, there will be a substantial reshuffling in the club's hierarchies.

The Corriere dello Sport confirms previous reports that Galliani will be asked to leave the club with no severance pay.

Grazie, Berlusconi

After 30 years of glory and hurt, Milan fans must thank Silvio Berlusconi, writes Susy Campanale.
