Berlusconi to buy all of Monza

Former Milan President Silvio Berlusconi has agreed to buy out 100 per cent of Serie C side Monza, with Adriano Galliani as CEO.

The negotiations have been going on for a few weeks and had initially been to purchase 70 per cent of the club, but increased that to a complete takeover.

Current patron Nicola Colombo will remain as President, with ex-Milan chief Galliani taking over as CEO.

“Maintaining this role is an honour, especially as I will no longer hold any of the club capital,” declared Colombo.

Monza to Berlusconi on Friday?

It’s reported that Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani will officially complete a takeover of Monza on Friday.

The former Milan owner and his right-hand man are close to agreeing a deal to buy the Serie C club, less than two years after leaving the Rossoneri.

Berlusconi lives in nearby Arcore while Galliani was born in Monza, so there is a sentimental connection for the pair.

According to Tuttomercatoweb the closing will take place on Friday, with current President Nicola Colombo selling 95 per cent of his shares.

“There won’t be a revolution,” the 74-year-old, who was born in the area, told Il Cittadino.

“The club, team and their employees are calm and thinking about doing well, as has happened so far.

Berlusconi buys all of Monza?

Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani will reportedly buy 95 per cent of Monza, rather than the initially mooted 70 per cent.

The former Milan owner and his right hand man are looking to get back into football by buying the Serie C club, and have been in talks for several weeks.

There’s a sentimental reason for both, as Galliani was born in Monza and Berlusconi lives nearby in Arcore.

According to this morning’s Corriere della Sera, the pair have decided to buy almost all of the club, taking on 95 per cent of the shares.

Milan legend Silvio Berlusconi is expected to announce the purchase of Lega Pro/Serie C side Monza on his 82nd birthday.

The man who took Milan to the top of world football and controlled the club for over 30 years sold up to Yonghong Li in April 2015.

He misses the sport, though, and is set for a new venture with the local side that had for decades acted as a feeder club to Milan: Monza.
