Semplici: 'SPAL stepping stone'

Leonardo Semplici hailed SPAL for an “excellent” 5-1 Coppa thrashing of Serie A rivals Lecce. “Now we must take further steps forward.”

SPAL ended their two-month wait for a victory in style to book a last-16 date with Milan next month, and Semplici now has eyes on winning the six-pointer with Brescia this weekend.

“We wanted to do well in this game,” he told Rai Sport.

“We had an excellent first half, where we secured the result. These lads deserve credit for making progress in terms of their game.

Semplici: 'SPAL focus is on Lecce'

Leonardo Semplici insists he “won’t make wholesale changes” to the SPAL line-up, as he’s focused on beating Lecce in the Coppa Italia.

The winners of Wednesday’s match will go on to face Milan in the Round of 16 next month.

“It’s true that we have a big Serie A game with Brescia coming up at the weekend, but it is only right that we focus only on Lecce right now,” said the coach in his press conference.

SPAL went down 2-1 against the Nerazzurri, but there was a remarkable contrast in performance in both halves, with the Ferrara side taking the game to Inter in the second half and could've emerged with a draw.
