Simone Inzaghi is delighted with Inter‘s title victory and his three-year spell at the Stadio Meazza but congratulates city rivals Milan as well: ‘It was not an easy game for them.’
The Nerazzuri boss was all smiles at a post-match press conference attended by Football Italia on Monday following Inter’s 2-1 win over Milan and the subsequent Serie A title victory.
“It’s a nice feeling that I want to share with everyone in the Interworld, from the fans to the President. I’ve already spoken to him,” Inzaghi said.
“A thought for my family too. My wife, my sons. My limit is that I can’t leave work outside my home. A thought for staff members, too: I want to share this target with all of them.
“These people and the passion of our fans give me great satisfaction,” he continued.
“It was hard to imagine a group like this, but the work and availability of these players have made all this possible. I want to share this with everyone. Everyone contributed to this achievement. Inter fans deserve it. They’ve always been extraordinary in victories and defeats.”
It was a tense match at the Meazza with three red cards in the stoppages, two for Milan (Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria) and one for the Nerazzurri (Denzel Dumfries).
“I want to congratulate Milan. Mentally, it was not an easy game for them,” said Inzaghi.
“They fought hard until the end. They were great opponents and they’ll be as such in the future as well.
“We wanted to win it tonight. We had great feelings, nobody complained when we trained in the morning [before the derby]. We worked on details that were important during the match. We put in a smart performance and could have scored more goals in the first half.”
This is Inzaghi’s sixth trophy at Inter and his first Serie A title not only with the Nerazzurri but also in his coaching career. He was appointed in 2021 to replace Antonio Conte, and the Piacenza-born coach is delighted by the team’s journey during his three-year spell.
“We have to analyse the three years. We won the Scudetto and the Supercoppa for the third year running. But I remember how the team played in the first Champions League match against Real Madrid.
“The lads have understood the principles and what I expect from them. These three years have been incredible. We probably don’t realise it now. At least, perhaps I still don’t realise it, but I am extremely happy for all those who were here to celebrate tonight.”
This is Inter’s 20th Serie A title in history, which means they’ll have a second star on their crest in 2024-25.
