Roma-Inter was a lose-lose situation

A point each felt like a defeat for both Roma and Inter, writes Susy Campanale, but Antonio Conte found yet more reasons to complain.

The 2-2 draw at the Olimpico felt like a loss for both sides. Roma had been leading 2-1 and looking absolutely comfortable until Leonardo Spinazzola conceded one of the strangest penalties you are ever likely to see. Inter had originally gone in front and could certainly complain at the Aleksandar Kolarov challenge on Lautaro Martinez which sparked the equaliser on the stroke of half-time. Just as quickly as the Scudetto dream loomed back into view, it had evaporated again.

Kolarov committed to Roma

Aleksandar Kolarov has decided to stay with Roma and could even have a future role as a director, it’s reported, rather than join Bologna.

The 34-year-old has been at the Stadio Olimpico since 2017 and is under contract until June 2021, although there is an option to automatically extend to 2022 if he plays a certain number of games.

There had been interest from Bologna, where he’d reunite with old friend Sinisa Mihajlovic.

Roma put off by Tomiyasu price tag?

Roma are being linked with Bologna full-back Takehiro Tomiyasu, but the asking price of €20m could prevent a move for the Japan international.

Tomiyasu has been a revelation at the Rossoblu and after his €9m move from Belgian side Sint-Triuden last summer, he has been linked with a third change in as many years this summer.

Kolarov: 'How can we finish by June 30?'

Roma left-back Aleksandar Kolarov has revealed that he’s “not optimistic” about the chances of finishing Serie A by June 30. "We must be rational".

The Serbia international recently extended his deal with the Giallorossi until June 2021 and has played 23 Serie A matches under the reign of Paulo Fonseca at the Olimpico.

But the former Manchester City and Lazio defender has claimed that we need to be realistic when we look at the different hypotheses for a potential conclusion of the current campaign.

Fonseca already on Roma warning

Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall can already see another Roma overhaul on the horizon if Paulo Fonseca fails to get a top four finish.

Travelling to Bergamo and coming away with anything these days isn’t easy. Last night there was no doubt that the character and quality Atalanta displayed was enough to topple the Romans. The defeat asked even more questions of the Giallorossi, who have been in dismal form of late. As is seemingly inevitable in the Eternal City, enthusiasm for coaches has the longevity of a paper bag more than the Pantheon. Already there are question marks raised over Paulo Fonseca’s project and whether another overhaul is needed.

Roma look to Benito

Roma are said to be interested in Bordeaux left-back Loris Benito following Leonardo Spinazzola's departure to Inter.

The Giallorossi have already moved in this transfer window, securing Inter’s Matteo Politano in the aftermath of Nicolo Zaniolo’s season-ending injury last weekend.

The Politano move also saw Spinazzola move in the opposite direction.

Now SportItalia states that Roma would like an understudy at left-back for Aleksandar Kolarov, and are looking towards Benito.

Dzeko: 'No Inter regrets'

Roma striker Edin Dzeko insists he has no regrets about rejecting a move to Inter last summer. "I don't think about it."

Dzeko had been linked with a move to the Nerazzurri throughout last summer. However a deal didn't materialise.

"I don't think about it. They are playing very well and they are first together with Juventus, it will be a race to the end and that's good for the league," the Bosnian told Sky Sport Italia.
