Kolarov secures victory at Torino

A magical free kick from Aleksandar Kolarov gave Roma their record 11th consecutive away victory in Serie A, sinking toothless Torino.

The Giallorossi made changes with a new centre-back pairing and Radja Nainggolan in a more advanced role.

It was Kolarov who made the difference with his trademark curling free kick into the near top corner.

The Granata continue to sorely miss injured Andrea Belotti, as Umar Sadiq and M’Baye Niang were eager, but inaccurate.

New Roma born at Stamford Bridge

Roma were famous for shying away on the big European stage, but a new and exhilarating approach was seen against Chelsea, writes Tom Scholes.

For quite some time, many have questioned the way that Roma play in big European nights, often being dominated or even humiliated, but there seems to be a change, at least judging by the evidence this season. After watching the 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, I can firmly say this is the best I have seen the Romans play in a big European game for many years. They were outstanding going forward and played a big part in an exciting game in London.

EDF: 'Roma deserved victory'

Eusebio Di Francesco left Roma's 3-3 draw with Chelsea feeling regret, because “when you play like this, you have to take home all three points.”

It was a crazy evening at Stamford Bridge, as the hosts were 2-0 up despite playing only on the counter-attack, then the Giallorossi turned it around completely through Aleksandar Kolarov and an Edin Dzeko brace.

Eden Hazard’s header from a set play clawed back a point for the six-goal thriller.

Kolarov: 'Napoli didn't deserve win'

Aleksandar Kolarov does not think Napoli deserved their 1-0 victory over Roma and “it’s too early to say they are breaking away at the top.”

Lorenzo Insigne got the only goal at the Stadio Olimpico, meaning the Partenopei have a perfect record after eight rounds and are five points clear of Juventus.

EDF: 'Roma must respect Qarabag'

Eusebio Di Francesco said Roma “must have great respect for Qarabag. If you don’t add determination to quality, every game is difficult.”

It kicks off in Baku on Wednesday at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).

The Giallorossi drew their opener 0-0 with Atletico Madrid, while Qarabag were crushed 6-0 at Stamford Bridge by Chelsea.

“Too many things are taken for granted, instead we must have great respect for Qarabag and their history. I can assure you it will not be an easy game,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Dzeko: 'I recommended Kolarov'

Edin Dzeko reveals he urged Roma to sign Aleksandar Kolarov, the only player to last 90 minutes in every match this season.

The left-back turns 32 in November, but has been well worth the €5m fee from Manchester City.

“I get along great with Kolarov. In fact, I was the one who told (director of sport) Monchi to sign him,” Dzeko told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Serie A is not new to the Serbia international, who was already at Lazio from 2007 to 2010 until his move to Manchester City.

Kolarov: ‘Roma are confident’

Aleksandar Kolarov says Roma are confident of what they can achieve this season after beating Atalanta.

The Serb scored the only goal in a hard fought win over La Dea today, firing a free-kick under the home side’s wall.

“It was important to win today. Atalanta are a good team and play great football,” new signing Kolarov said.

“We prepared well and, by suffering, we deserved to win.

“I knew they were expecting me to shoot over the wall. It went well!”

Kolarov knocks down Atalanta

A cheeky Aleksandar Kolarov free kick rolled under the wall proved the difference, as Roma won 1-0 in Bergamo and Atalanta hit the post.

The former Lazio and Manchester City defender made an immediate impact on his return to Serie A, placing a smart set play beneath the jumping legs to surprise Etrit Berisha.

Atalanta laid siege to the Giallorossi in the closing minutes, Josip Ilicic somehow hitting the post from point-blank range and some truly desperate defending in the box.
