Mancini: 'Different Italy at Euro 2021'

Roberto Mancini admits his Italy squad will inevitably change with the Euro 2020 delay to next year, hoping to reap the rewards of improvements to Nicolò Zaniolo, Federico Chiesa, Emerson Palmieri and more.

The tournament was due to kick off on June 12, but has been postponed to the summer of 2021, something that could well transform the Azzurri squad.

Cagliari are the real deal

With a head-to-head for top four status with Lazio this evening, Marcello Cossali-Francis assures Cagliari are not a fluke.

President Tommaso Giulini felt the sting of last term’s failure. Narrowly avoiding relegation, dealing with protests from fans and considered a dumping ground for has-beens and never-weres. Something radical had to be done in order to prevent even flirting with demotion in this extremely special year.

Pellegrini out of U21 squad

Cagliari left-back Luca Pellegrini has pulled out of Italy’s Under-21 squad with a minor ankle problem.

Pellegrini suffered the setback during training on Tuesday, but Gazzetta dello Sport assures his exit from the U21 camp is only precautionary.

Nonetheless, it is enough to see him eject from the squad and taking his place is Sassuolo’s Alessandro Tripaldelli.

Juventus shortage of full-backs

Juventus have barely any available full-backs against SPAL this weekend, as Alex Sandro has flown to Brazil on compassionate leave.

The Bianconeri were already dealing with a huge injury crisis that ruled out Mattia De Sciglio, Danilo, Douglas Costa, Marko Pjaca and Giorgio Chiellini.

Alex Sandro has now been given permission to fly back to Brazil following the tragic death of his father.

Juan Cuadrado has been used so far as a makeshift right-back, but even that might not be enough to fill the gaps.

Young Azzurri gearing up for 2020

Italy are on the cusp of Euro 2020 qualification, so Vijay Rahaman looks at the young players building towards a spot in the Azzurri squad.

While there are some established stars and those consistently in the squad, what new players could Roberto Mancini look to for the future? A few of them are already in the Nazionale squad facing Armenia this evening and Finland on Sunday, but the 2020 Serie A odds here point to them increasing their Azzurri profile.

Italy: Pellegrini in, Kean & Zaniolo out

Italy have called up Luca Pellegrini and Stephan El Shaarawy for September’s Euro 2020 qualifiers, but Cristiano Biraghi, Moise Kean and Nicolo Zaniolo are out.

Pellegrini is rewarded for his breakout few months on loan at Cagliari, which earned him a permanent transfer to Juventus.

There is also a place for El Shaarawy, despite the winger’s decision to leave Europe for Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua earlier in the summer.

However, Biraghi is left out just a day after he completed a return to Inter.

Pellegrini: Cagliari 'ideal' for me

Luca Pellegrini believes Cagliari are the ‘ideal’ team for him at this stage of his career after returning from Juventus.

Pellegrini moved to Juve from Roma earlier in the summer but will spend the upcoming season back at Cagliari, where he ended the previous campaign.

“We all came together and I made the decision to continue playing for Cagliari, who are the ideal club for me right now. It’s hard to find a better one,” explained the Italy Under-20 left-back at his official unveiling.

Official: Luca Pellegrini joins Cagliari

Cagliari have officially signed Luca Pellegrini on loan from Juventus and announced the news via a curious viral video, including Amazon assistant Alexa.

It is a return to Sardinia for the left-back, who had been on loan from Roma in January-June 2019, making 12 competitive appearances, with one assist.

Roma sold the 20-year-old to Juventus for €22m as part of the Leonardo Spinazzola deal.

He has now been sent back to the Sardegna Arena on a dry loan – without an option to buy – until June 2020.

Luca Pellegrini close to Cagliari

Juventus are very close to loaning Luca Pellegrini back to Cagliari after purchasing the full-back from Roma.

The Italy Under-21 international made the move to Turin as part of the deal that brought Leonardo Spinazzola to the Stadio Olimpico.

He spent the last six months of the 2018-19 season on loan at Cagliari and could well be back there again, this time via Juve.

Talks are believed to be at an advanced stage and Tuttomercatoweb trust a move is imminent.

Pellegrini to re-join Cagliari

Juventus left-back Luca Pellegrini is all set to re-join Cagliari on a season-long loan.

Sky Sport Italia, Calciomercato.com and Goal.com’s Romeo Agresti all report a deal will be signed off on Monday.

Once that is done, Pellegrini can undergo a medical and sign his contract with Cagliari.

However, the sources stress there is no option to buy as Juve only brought in the 20-year-old from Roma last month and rate him highly.
