Roma fight Monaco for Cragno

Roma are reportedly the favourites to sign Alessio Cragno, although Monaco are also interested in the Cagliari goalkeeper.

He turns 25 next month and has been one of the most consistently impressive shot-stoppers in Serie A this season.

According to Tuttosport, Roma and Monaco are prepared to duel on the transfer market for his signature this summer.

The Giallorossi are seemingly ahead, partly because they are offering him a five-year contract, but also as these clubs have already done business.

Italy name U-20 World Cup squad

Italy have named their squad for the U-20 World Cup, which includes Milan goalkeeper Alessandro Plizzari and Roma’s Luca Pellegrini.

Plizzari keeps his place from the last U-20 World Cup two years ago, when Italy finished third with the likes of Nicolo Barella, Rolando Mandragora and tournament top scorer Riccardo Orsolini.

Pellegrini, meanwhile, has spent the second half of this season on loan at Cagliari and is considered the Azzurri’s left-back of the future.

Cagliari 'to sign Luca Pellegrini'

Cagliari are reportedly close to wrapping up a loan deal for Roma left-back Luca Pellegrini.

According to Corriere di Roma and Calciomercato.com, Cagliari are in the process of finalising a loan until the end of the season for Pellegrini.

The 19-year-old has played just six times for the Giallorossi this season, with an ankle injury and Aleksandar Kolarov limiting his first-team prospects.

Nonetheless, the Italy Under-21 international is considered one for the future by the Giallorossi so the Sardinians will not have an option to buy.

Atalanta and Roma invest in youth

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini and Roma sporting director Monchi are both strong advocates of developing emerging talent, notes Nick Valerio.

As a resurgent Roma side visit Bergamo today, Atalanta know a win would see them leapfrog the Lupi in the table and move within a point of Milan, who currently hold the much-coveted final Champions League berth.

La Dea currently sit in seventh, and if they were to achieve this remarkable feat, it would not carry the same shock value as two years ago when they beat the likes of Lazio and both Milan giants, as they are no longer a surprise package and unquestionably now the real deal.

Kolarov: Toro a starting point

Aleksandar Kolarov has challenged Roma to make Torino a starting point for the rest of the season.

Roma kick off the second round of the Serie A campaign just two points off fourth-placed Lazio after winning three of their last four games, and Kolarov was in a confident mood ahead of the Lupi’s match against Torino on Saturday.

“We’ve had two or three injuries to key players. You get these dark periods during the season,” he told Roma’s Match Program.

Pellegrini injured again

Roma full-back Luca Pellegrini suffered an injury in training today, though it’s not thought his already operated on knee is affected.

The youngster has already suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and a broken kneecap, both of which required surgery.

Today in a training match Pellegrini went down in obvious pain, Sky reports, and had to be taken off the pitch.

While the injury may be serious, it’s thought that the defender has hurt his ankle rather than his troublesome knee.

Pellegrini relishes full Roma debut

After two substitute appearances this season, the hometown Roman was given his full Serie A debut in a 2-0 victory over Empoli.
