Milan needn’t search for the expensive star name, as they have their leader in Giacomo Bonaventura, writes Tom Scholes.

Sometimes, when you try and build something new you end up looking for the perfect item to complete whatever your project is. Sometimes, you spend a lot of money on this item, taking a huge risk and hoping that it pays off. However sometimes the perfect item is right in front of your eyes.

This is exactly what has happened at Milan this summer, as they have tried to reconstruct their team, but the perfect player to build this team around was already in the squad. In fact, he’s been there for three years.

Donnarumma: 'Proud of Milan shirt'

Gianluigi Donnarumma thanked supporters for welcoming him back into the fold after a tumultuous summer. “I am proud to wear the Milan shirt.”

The 18-year-old goalkeeper threw the club into turmoil in June when he refused to sign a new contract, effectively forcing a transfer, but after weeks of tension and negotiations he changed his mind to pen another deal.

Giacomo Bonaventura was Man of the Match against Craiova, while Franck Kessie impressed again for Milan.

In the first match of the new-look Milan’s season at San Siro, the Rossoneri booked their place in the Europa League play-off, beating Romanian side Craiova 2-0 (3-0 on aggregate) thanks to goals from Jack Bonaventura and Patrick Cutrone.

Montella thanks Milan fans

Vincenzo Montella was glad Milan swept Craiova aside to thank the fans for “a show of deep love for the team” and welcoming back Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The Rossoneri beat Craiova 2-0 on the night, 3-0 on aggregate, to reach the Europa League play-offs.

“I am really very satisfied and the new players settled in pretty quickly, so it is a wonderful night and the fans deserved it for the love they have shown us in pre-season,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

Mangia: 'Donnarumma decisive'

Craiova Coach Devis Mangia admits Gianluigi Donnarumma’s saves disheartened his players in both legs of the Europa League preliminary round.

The Rossoneri won 1-0 in Romania and followed it up with a 2-0 victory at San Siro this evening, but Donnarumma made decisive blocks in both matches.

“It’s not easy coming to play in this stadium,” Mangia told Mediaset Premium.

Bonaventura: 'One game at a time'

Giacomo Bonaventura said Milan “have to take it one game at a time and earn this enthusiasm” after a Europa League victory over Craiova.

Bonaventura and Patrick Cutrone scored in the 2-0 win, which allows them to get through 3-0 on aggregate into the play-offs.

“We have to take it one game at a time. It was a good performance, despite the extreme heat, but we did well to take the lead straight away and continued playing the ball,” he told Mediaset.

Suso: 'Easier with Milan fans'

Suso said “it becomes much easier for us to perform” with a packed San Siro in Milan’s opening home game of the season.

The Rossoneri host Craiova in the second leg of the Europa League play-off, having won 1-0 in Romania.

“I wasn’t 100 per cent, so I didn’t go to China and focused on my fitness,” Suso told Mediaset at half-time.
