Derby della Lanterna shines brighter

Genoa and Sampdoria are revamping this season with raised ambitions, explains Vijay Rahaman, but uncertainty in the boardroom.

The Marassi showdown between Genoa and Sampdoria is called the Derby della Lanterna after the lighthouse that shines bright over the port city. Official: Genoa hire Andreazzoli

Genoa have officially hired former Empoli boss Aurelio Andreazzoli as their new Coach.

A statement on Genoa’s official website reads Andreazzoli will formally take charge on July 1 and has signed a contract for two seasons.

His arrival marks the end of Cesare Prandelli’s tenure, who kept the Grifone up but only by the virtue of a superior head-to-head with Empoli.

The 65-year-old was assistant to succession of Roma Coaches between 2005 and 2017, before guiding the Giallorossi to the Coppa Italia Final during a stint as caretaker in 2013.
