Fonseca: 'Roma a gratifying experience'

Paulo Fonseca assures Roma was ‘a very difficult experience, but a gratifying one’ as he hands over to Jose Mourinho, but there are inevitably regrets after beating Manchester United 3-2 in the Europa League semi-final.

The Giallorossi regained some dignity after the 6-2 first leg defeat by beating Manchester United 3-2 with goals from Edin Dzeko, Bryan Cristante and debutant teenager Nicola Zalewski.

Florenzi welcome at Mourinho's Roma

As reports continue to suggest PSG will not take up their option to buy Alessandro Florenzi, could he find a new lease of life for Roma under Jose Mourinho?

The 30-year-old is a born and bred Roma fan who felt pushed out by coach Paulo Fonseca, going on loan first to Valencia and then PSG.

Although he has been playing regularly for the French side and started both legs of their Champions League semi-final with Manchester City, RMC Sport continue to insist they are looking for someone else in the right-back role.

Ibanez not trying to 'impress' Mourinho

Roger Ibanez insists he will face Manchester United and play every game ‘for Roma, not to impress’ new coach Jose Mourinho.

The first leg ended 6-2 at Old Trafford and the Europa League semi-final concludes on Thursday at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

“Tomorrow is important for us, we want to play with the same attitude as always,” said the defender in his press conference.

“It’s a different game, because we have to come back, but nothing is impossible in football and we’ll try to give our all.”

Fonseca: 'Mourinho will do great job at Roma'

Paulo Fonseca admits it’s right to ‘part ways’ with Roma and is sure Jose Mourinho ‘will do a great job’ there, but he’ll fight to the end against Manchester United.

The first leg of the Europa League semi-final ended 6-2 and the decider is tomorrow at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

That result was the final straw, although the decision to fire him and already been made some time ago, and yesterday the club made the shock announcement that Mourinho would take over.

Fonseca: 'I have always given my best for Roma'

Roma coach Paulo Fonseca leaves the club after the current campaign. ‘We have experienced ups and downs, but I have always given my best’.

The Giallorossi confirmed the coach will not stay beyond the season, with Roma currently sitting seventh in Serie A and trailing Manchester United 6-2 after one leg in the Europa League semi-final.

Fonseca arrived in July 2019 and the 48-year-old helped La Lupa to fifth in Serie A and the round of 16 in the Europa League last season.

Official: Fonseca leaves Roma after the season

Roma have officially announced Paulo Fonseca will leave the club after the season.

President Dan Friedkin has confirmed the Portuguese coach will not get a new deal at the Olimpico, after a disappointing season in Serie A.

“On behalf of everyone at AS Roma, we would like to thank Paulo Fonseca for the hard work and leadership shown during these two years,” Dan Friedkin said.

Roma: Fonseca refuses to resign

According to several reports in Italy, Roma coach Paulo Fonseca has refused to resign, but there are four interim coaches ‘ready’ if the Giallorossi suffer a heavy defeat against Manchester United on Thursday.

Roma sit seventh in the Serie A table, just two points clear of Sassuolo, with four games remaining.

The Giallorossi have managed just four points in the last five Serie A games and lost the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against Manchester United 6-2 last week.

Under-fire Fonseca meets Roma directors

Paulo Fonseca met Roma directors this morning, and several reports in Italy suggest the Portuguese could be sacked before the end of the season.

Roma sit seventh in the Serie A table and collected just four points in the last five Serie A games.

They also suffered an embarrassing 6-2 defeat in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against Manchester United last week.

The coach’s agent Marco Abreu reportedly attended the meeting along with Roma’s owner Dan Friedkin and managing director Tiago Pinto.
