Buffon confirms Porto offer

Gianluigi Buffon has received an offer from FC Porto, confirmed his agent, but the goalkeeper “will make a decision in around 10 days.”

The shot-stopper is a free agent after turning down a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain and has hinted he’s looking for a return to Italy.

However, so far the most credible proposal has been from the Portuguese champions, who’d bring him in to replace Iker Casillas.

Porto or Atalanta for Buffon

FC Porto and Atalanta are the most likely options for Gianluigi Buffon, as both are in the Champions League, note Sky Sport Italia.

The goalkeeper is already 41 years old and rejected a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain, as he wants to play more regularly.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the favourites are Porto, as he would replace good friend and fellow veteran Iker Casillas following the Spaniard’s heart attack.

Buffon's next adventure

There’s one more move in Gianluigi Buffon’s stellar career, so Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall looks at where he could go.

There are few who would begrudge Gigi Buffon one more season. The iconic goalkeeper decided not to renew with PSG this summer and instead wants to look for pastures new to ply his trade, even at his ripe old age. His agent has confirmed that he is looking through the many offers he already has, but it would be no surprise if he took his time. Despite his status as one of the best goalkeepers the world has ever seen, there are still reasons for him to be careful.

El Shaarawy: 'Negative Roma season'

Stephan El Shaarawy concedes it was a “negative season” for Roma with a lot of upheaval, but he became a more consistent performer.

The Giallorossi finished in sixth place, failing to qualify for the Champions League under caretaker manager Claudio Ranieri.

“I think that I’ve improved a lot since I first joined Roma three years ago, becoming more mature as a player and above all in terms of my mentality,” he told Roma TV.

Di Francesco is Roma history

Eusebio Di Francesco made history for Roma as both player and Coach, but Daryl Hammond believes the axe had to fall for Claudio Ranieri and another new era.

Having won Serie A as a player with Roma, Eusebio Di Francesco will also be immortalised as a Coach for his part in their historic comeback against Barcelona, but memories are very short in football.

Though his future seemed uncertain after a 3-0 Serie A loss to fierce rivals Lazio at the weekend, all would have been forgotten if they found their way past Porto in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 clash.

Di Francesco considering resignation

Eusebio Di Francesco is reportedly considering his resignation after Roma’s Champions League exit to Porto. “He’ll decide what he wants to do,” noted Diego Perotti.

The Coach has not spoken to the media after today’s 3-1 defeat, 4-3 on aggregate, in extra time at the Estadio Do Dragao.

He walked to the team bus and sat on it alone, thinking, while players held post-match interviews with Sky Sport Italia and other media.

De Rossi: 'Human error, not VAR'

Daniele De Rossi maintains Roma deserved a penalty against Porto in the Champions League. “It’s nothing to do with VAR, that is a human error.”

VAR was used to give Porto a spot-kick in extra time and win 3-1 on the night, 4-3 on aggregate, but official Cuneyt Cakir did not watch the footage back when Patrik Schick seemed to be tripped a few minutes later.

Felipe: 'Porto showed patience'

Porto defender Felipe credits their “patience” for getting past Roma in extra time and reaching the Champions League quarter-final.

They had lost the first leg 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico, won by the same result at home and Alex Telles converted a penalty in extra time to go through 4-3 on aggregate.

“We wanted to get the qualification done in regular time, but Roma also have a great deal of quality and it was a good match,” Felipe told reporters.
