Zan's the Man for Roma

Roma’s victory over Porto confirmed Nicolò Zaniolo’s status as a new star, but still left Giancarlo Rinaldi frustrated with the result.

If you wanted to sum up a season in one game, this wasn’t a bad effort. There was plenty to admire - most notably two magical goals from wonderkid Nicolò Zaniolo - but ultimately a feeling of frustration. Despite the victory, the celebrations were a little subdued in the Stadio Olimpico. It was a good result but, deep down, everybody knew it should have been better.

Conceicao: 'Porto will go through'

Sergio Conceicao insists Porto “deserved a draw” in their 2-1 defeat to Roma and is “convinced we’ll go through to the quarter-final.”

Nicolò Zaniolo had put the Giallorossi 2-0 up with a brace, but Adrian Lopez made the most of a wayward Soares shot to give Porto a potentially decisive away goal.

The second leg of this Champions League Round of 16 is at the Estadio do Dragao on March 6.

Casillas: 'Porto goal justice'

Iker Casillas insists Porto “did justice” to their performance with an away goal that leaves the Champions League tie with Roma open.

Nicolò Zaniolo had bagged a brace to put the Giallorossi 2-0 up, but substitute Adrian Lopez made the most of a lucky ricochet to score at the Olimpico.

“Obviously, we didn’t want to come here and suffer a defeat, but it was a very balanced game,” Casillas told TVI.

Zaniolo: 'Never expected this'

Nicolò Zaniolo set a new all-time Italian record with his Champions League brace for Roma. “I never would’ve expected such a thing.”

The 19-year-old had never scored in the Champions League before, but bagged a brace within six minutes at the Olimpico in this Round of 16 first leg 2-1 win over Porto.

However, Adrian Lopez pouncing on a ricochet means the tie is wide open going into the decider on March 6.

Roma rely on Italian talent

For the first time since 2010, Roma start a Champions League match with a majority Italian XI – seven, to be precise.
