Lazzari returned to Lazio for medical visit

Lazio midfielder Manuel Lazzari pulled out of the Italy squad with a muscle injury and has returned to Rome for a medical visit.

The 26-year-old travelled with the Azzurri squad to Bergamo ahead of their clash with the Netherlands on Wednesday but has left the camp and returned to the Italian capital.

Lazio have revealed the right-midfielder underwent a medical visit at the Paideia Clinic today, where he went through tests to assess the extent of his injury.

Lazzari played his second game for Italy in the 6-0 win over Moldova last week.

Lazio star Manuel Lazzari admits he ‘missed’ playing for Italy after a two-year gap and is confident he can learn to make his mark in the 4-3-3 formation too.

Lazzari: 'Lazio must be more clinical'

Lazio winger Manuel Lazzari vowed to be ‘in top shape’ for the new season but admitted the Aquile ‘must be more clinical’ after a 1-0 win against Frosinone.

Joaquin Correa scored the only goals when the Biancocelesti secured a win in the friendly against Frosinone on Saturday, and Lazzari felt his team could have done more.

“This match could have ended with more goals, we hit the woodwork and had chances to score,” Lazzari told Lazio Style Channel.

Lazio have deal for Fares

Mohamed Fares is widely believed to be on the verge of a transfer to Lazio, joining his ex-SPAL teammate Manuel Lazzari.

The tactical similarities between Simone Inzaghi and ex-SPAL coach Leonardo Semplici meant that Lazzari slotted straight into the Aquile XI.

Inzaghi is hoping he can therefore replicate the impressive form that Lazzari had with fellow wing-back Fares.

According to Sportitalia, the deal is almost done for €9m plus performance-related bonuses.

There could also be a youth team player as part of the exchange.

Lazio close on Fares

Lazio are reportedly on the verge of securing a deal for SPAL wing-back Mohamed Fares, despite competition from Cagliari.

The 24-year-old Algeria international was requested specifically by coach Simone Inzaghi, according to the Corriere dello Sport newspaper, who sees him as ideal for the 3-5-2 system.

Fares is ready to follow in the footsteps of Manuel Lazzari, who moved from SPAL to Lazio last summer, as they worked brilliantly on either side of a five-man midfield.
