Pallotta preparing Newcastle bid?

Former Roma owner James Pallotta is reportedly selling his share of the Boston Celtics too, suggesting he’ll reinvest, possibly in Newcastle United.

The American businessman had already been heavily linked with a bid for the Newcastle takeover and is now seemingly in a position to do it.

He completed the sale of AS Roma to Dan Friedkin this month for €591m and Sportico claim he is now ready to sell his 8% share in basketball team Boston Celtics.

Dan Friedkin to be Roma President

According to Il Tempo newspaper, Dan Friedkin and not his son Ryan will be the new President of AS Roma as of Monday.

The takeover from James Pallotta is on track to be completed on August 17, at which point a new Board of Directors will also be put in place.

It had been assumed for months that Ryan Friedkin would be installed as President, move to Italy and be a more hands-on presence in the day to day running of the club.

Now Il Tempo claims Dan Friedkin himself will be named President, but that Ryan will nonetheless be the one staying in Italy.

Roma to be reborn after Sevilla thrashing

Jim Pallotta’s era ends with a whimper against Sevilla, but at least new owner Dan Friedkin knows what he has to do at Roma, writes Owen Diana.

As one door closes for Roma, a new one opens. A marathon 2019-20 campaign came to a disappointing conclusion with a 2-0 defeat to Sevilla in Duisburg, but the club’s sale to American billionaire Dan Friedkin under 24 hours before kick-off brings hope for a brighter future. However, a meek capitulation to the Andalusians highlighted the current gulf in class between the Giallorossi and Europe’s best.

Report: Friedkin back in for Roma

Tuttomercatoweb claim The Friedkin Group are close to a €600m takeover of Roma, on the verge of an agreement with James Pallotta, who could then reinvest in Newcastle United.

They had originally been in advanced negotiations, as confirmed by a statement from AS Roma, but the deal was stalled by the COVID-19 pandemic and consequent change in financial outlook all over the world, not just in sport.

The offer was reduced and the timing of the payment changed, so Pallotta pulled out, calling it ‘unacceptable.’
