Official: Abbiati renews with Milan

Milan have officially announced that goalkeeper Christian Abbiati has been given a new one-year contract.

The veteran shot-stopper’s contract expired yesterday, and it was unclear whether he would remain at San Siro next year.

However, in a statement posted on the club’s official website, the Rossoneri have confirmed that Abbiati will have a 15th season with the Diavolo.

“Today, Abbiati has extended his relationship with Milan,” the statement announced, confirming the deal will run until June 30, 2016.

Pazzini: 'I could stay at Milan'

Giampaolo Pazzini celebrated his 100th Serie A goal and insisted he could still stay at Milan.

“It’s a fantastic night and I cared a lot about this 100th goal, especially to get it in a stadium like this,” the striker told Sky Sport Italia.

He converted a penalty in the 3-0 victory over Torino and was the team’s ninth starting captain of the campaign.

“I thank Abbiati for giving me the captain’s armband, a lovely gesture.”

Abbiati: ‘Prove you deserve Milan’

Christian Abbiati has called on his teammates to ‘prove they deserve Milan’ between now and the end of the season.

The Rossoneri have fallen to 11th place in Serie A after Sunday’s defeat to Napoli, and the goalkeeper has thrown down the gauntlet to his teammates.

“Losing a player after one minute is difficult, and Napoli are a great team,” Abbiati told MilanChannel.

“Every player has to prove that they deserve Milan, and to play in this shirt next season. The game my teammates played at Napoli gives me belief.

Diego Lopez Milan Derby doubt

There are rumours Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez could miss tomorrow night’s derby against Inter.

The former Real Madrid shot-stopper interrupted training on Friday with a slightly sprained finger.

According to Milannews.it, Diego Lopez had tests to rule out any serious damage, but is still feeling pain.

Lopez: ‘Chievo game tough’

Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez predicts a tough match when the Rossoneri take on Chievo on Saturday.

Filippo Inzaghi’s men are looking to make it two wins in a row after last week’s victory over Cesena, but the former Real Madrid man warns it won’t be easy.

“Saturday will be a very hard match against Chievo,” Lopez told Milan Channel.

“They are low down in the league table and so it will be a big match also for them.

‘Coppa is Milan’s Champions League’

Christian Abbiati says Milan must treat the Coppa Italia as their Champions League this term, ahead of the visit of Sassuolo.

The Rossoneri are without European competition this term after finishing last season in eighth place in Serie A, and the goalkeeper believes the Coppa must be seen as a substitute.

“It’s the only cup that we’re in, it’s our Champions League,” Abbiati told journalists in a Press conference ahead of the game.
