Fonseca: 'Can see Roma signs'

Roma Coach Paulo Fonseca can “already see signs of what we want to do as a team” after the 12-0 victory over Pro Calcio Tor Sapienza.

The Giallorossi’s first friendly outing of the summer saw the 4-2-3-1 formation used with attack-minded full-backs, Davide Santon in central defence and goalkeeper Pau Lopez acting as a sweeper-keeper.

Diego Perotti converted a penalty before Schick scored with a delightful back-heel flick on Rick Karsdorp’s assist.

Leonardo Spinazzola, Spinozzi and Schick again rounded out the scoreline.

Fenerbahce ask for Olsen

Fenerbahce are the favourites to sign Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen, as the Giallorossi want at least €6m for the Swede.

His debut Serie A season was disappointing and saw him drop behind veteran Antonio Mirante in the final few months.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, there are precious few genuine offers on the table for Olsen.

The only real interest has been shown by Fenerbahce and a firm bid is expected over the next few days.

Introducing Pau Lopez

Pau Lopez becomes the eighth most expensive ever shot-stopper, so Massimo Nuzzo outlines the strengths and weaknesses of Roma’s new sweeper-keeper.

It’s safe to say the main priority for new Roma director of sport Gianluca Petrachi was finding a goalkeeper to replace the disastrous Robin Olsen. Despite that failed experiment, the Giallorossi have again gone for a foreign shot-stopper with no Serie A experience in Real Betis ‘keeper Pau Lopez.

Not only are many fans not familiar with the 24-year-old, but he also becomes the most expensive goalkeeper ever signed by the club at around €28m and the eighth costliest in football history, on a par with Manuel Neuer.

Roma over €30m for Pau Lopez

Reports in Spain suggest Roma have agreed terms with Real Betis for goalkeeper Pau Lopez at a total cost of over €30m.

The Giallorossi identified him as the ideal replacement for Robin Olsen, who was bitterly disappointing last season.

Negotiations had stalled over the last couple of days and he was seen in pre-season training with the Spaniards.

According to the Diario de Sevilla newspaper, the two clubs have now worked out a deal that will end up being worth over €30m rather than the original €28m.
