Scaroni: 'Pioli consistency good for Milan'

Milan President Paolo Scaroni praised ‘real gentleman’ Stefano Pioli after his contract extension. ‘A bit of consistency will be good for us. Finally we have a team that plays together.’

The surprise announcement arrived late last night, after the 2-1 win away to Sassuolo, that talks with Ralf Rangnick had been abandoned and Pioli would extend his contract to June 2022.

Milan stick rather than twist

News of Stefano Pioli’s new contract ended the prospect of a brave new world at Milan. Richard Hall analyses why Ralf Rangnick isn’t coming after all, and who the winners and losers are…

Whether you agree or disagree with Stefano Pioli’s extension as Milan coach until 2022, you would have to say this is a victory for the establishment. Paolo Maldini is also set to stay on and it seems he has certainly used his influence to the full in this political struggle. Whilst time will tell if this is a large dose of short termism or not, the process has been a confused one and it confirms Milan were not willing to take a leap of faith and embark on a new project that could have seen Ralf Rangnick revolutionise the club.

Li: 'Scaroni backstabbed me'

Former Milan owner Yonghong Li has hit out at Paolo Scaroni, alleging a conflict of interest on the part of the club’s current President.

Li owned Milan during the 2017-18 campaign with Scaroni a member of his board at the time.

However, he was ultimately replaced as President by the 73-year-old, with Elliott Management gaining control of the Rossoneri after the Chinese businessman defaulted on a loan lent to him by the hedge fund.

“It was an exasperating time,” he told Forbes.

Scaroni: 'Coppa Italia schedule debatable'

Milan President Paolo Scaroni complains about the ‘debatable’ idea of playing the Coppa Italia semi-finals and Final from June 13-17.

It was announced today that Serie A will resume from June 20, but the Coppa Italia will try to reach a conclusion in the week leading up to that.

In theory, that means the second legs of the semi-finals Juventus-Milan and Napoli-Inter on June 13-14, with the Final in Rome on June 17.

Paolo Scaroni has explained how Milan are moving forward with Ivan Gazidis, assured that ‘mistakes are behind us’ and claimed ‘FFP will change’.

However, Scaroni made it clear the former Arsenal man - in his role as CEO - had a big role to play for Milan.
