Marotta: 'Lautaro needs peace of mind'

Beppe Marotta has conceded Lautaro Martinez ‘must find peace of mind’ and that Inter ‘have to be patient’ with Christian Eriksen.

Martinez scored 16 goals before the coronavirus lockdown but, amidst speculation linking him with Barcelona, has managed just one more in six games since, also missing a penalty in the 2-1 defeat to Bologna yesterday.

Inter move to lock down Lautaro

Lautaro Martinez’s release clause expires on Tuesday and Inter hope that’ll be the trigger for him to shun Barcelona and sign a new, improved contract.

The Argentine has a clause worth €111m in his current deal, but it can only be activated by July 7 by clubs outside of Italy.

As Barca are struggling financially in the post-COVID landscape, they have been unable to offer the full amount, while Inter have no intention of negotiating the figure down.

Nerazzurri need to be ruthless

Inter always like to make things difficult for themselves, as Richard Hall shares Antonio Conte’s call for them to be more merciless.

“I repeat, this is not a fitness issue.” A lack of match fitness would have been the perfect excuse, not only for his team’s second half dip against Sampdoria, but also for the slip against Napoli in the Coppa Italia semi-final. Instead, Antonio Conte was insistent that Inter need to kill of games if they are to be a special team, as they had nearly let Sampdoria back into a match they were never really involved in. This was taking full responsibility and in turn, putting it back on his players.
