Inter aren't meant to like Icardi

The Mauro Icardi affair has been handled terribly, but Football Italia’s Chief Correspondent Richard Hall still sees his return as a boost for Inter.

Javier Zanetti perhaps did not mean to talk in riddles, but his statement seemed to offer one when asked can Mauro Icardi return against Lazio? “I think we have talked about him too much, now we must focus on the field because it is fundamental for the season finale.” It is true that the headlines have focused on the saga surrounding Icardi, but his return to the Nerazzurri squad also allows gives Luciano Spalletti a significant boost to his arsenal. If used correctly, then Inter could finish the season in impressive style.

Zanetti: 'Icardi issue resolved'

Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti insists the Mauro Icardi “issue has been resolved, now we need action rather than words.”

The striker returned to training this week after 40 days out with a knee injury, which coincided with the decision to suddenly strip him of the club captaincy.

With Lautaro Martinez injured, it’s possible Icardi will have to start Sunday’s Serie A showdown with Lazio.

Lautaro out of Inter-Lazio

Inter have confirmed that striker Lautaro Martinez will miss Sunday’s visit of Lazio in Serie A with a thigh injury.

Martinez pulled up during Argentina’s 1-0 win against Morocco earlier in the week, which was the second international game he started.

Inter have since announced that the 21-year-old ‘pulled the rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh’ and ‘will be evaluated again next week’.

It now remains to be seen whether the Beneamata bring back Mauro Icardi, who only resumed full training on Tuesday.

Icardi in line for Lazio start?

Mauro Icardi could be handed a shock start against Lazio on Sunday as Inter teammate Lautaro Martinez is suffering from fatigue.

Martinez lasted just under an hour of Argentina’s 1-0 win against Morocco on Tuesday, and Gazzetta dello Sport reports he will undergo tests on Thursday.

The 21-year-old started both of his country’s games during the international break, despite being a recent shoe-in for Inter as he covered for Icardi.

Lautaro’s chances of facing Lazio are considered very low, even if tests show he has only muscle fatigue.

Argentina go with Lautaro-Dybala

Serie A strikers Lautaro Martinez and Paulo Dybala will lead the line for Argentina against Morocco this evening.

Martinez scored last time out for Argentina, although his goal could not prevent a 3-1 defeat to Venezuela.

Nonetheless, CT Lionel Scaloni confirmed at a Press conference that the Inter hitman would be paired with Dybala in Tangier.

The Juventus forward is in need of goals after managing just nine for his club this season, while he has netted only once in his 18 caps for the Albiceleste.
