Genoa owner Enrico Preziosi admits Mattia Perin can leave ‘if a big opportunity arises’ and hopes to keep Giuseppe Rossi, who ‘makes love with the ball’.

Preziosi’s remarks will surely put Napoli on red alert for Perin and encourage Rossi, who has made just five goalless appearances for Genoa since his free transfer in January, although Coach Davide Ballardini may feel aggrieved after turning the Grifone’s season around.

Agent: 'Rossi dreams of Italy'

Giuseppe Rossi’s agent is confident the Genoa forward can “be an outsider” for a place in the Italy squad. “It remains his dream.”

Now 31, Pepito is back in Serie A after several years abroad and a run of devastating knee injuries.

“The Nazionale remains his dream, as is natural for every Italian player. I think once he has reached 100 per cent fitness, Giuseppe can still potentially be an outsider for the Italy squad,” agent Federico Pastorello told Mediaset Premium.

Rossi unimpressed by VAR

Genoa striker Giuseppe Rossi was unimpressed with the use of VAR in the win over Lazio, asking “are we kidding?”

The Italian international was injured and forced to watch the game from home, with his teammates grabbing a late win at the Stadio Olimpico.

There was a controversial moment just before that though, as Diego Laxalt thought he had scored the winner, only to see his goal overturned by the Video Assistant Referee.

While the ball did strike his hand, it had been played off him at close range by Martin Caceres.

Rossi out with thigh injury

Genoa have confirmed that Giuseppe Rossi will be out for at least 10 days with a thigh injury.

The striker signed for the Grifone on a free transfer, having recovered from the latest in a long line of serious knee injuries.

Since joining his new club the Italian international has managed just two substitute appearances, and he’ll also miss the visit of Udinese this weekend.

‘Rossi can play for Italy again’

Giuseppe Rossi’s agent believes the Genoa forward can “be important” for Italy again after his much-vaunted comeback on Wednesday.

Rossi made his first appearance in Italian football for over a year when he came on during Genoa’s 2-0 Coppa Italia defeat to Juventus, and Federico Pastorello admitted watching the injury-hit attacker again “was like he was making his debut in Serie A.”

“I’m happy, if not excited, about his return,” he told Radio 24.
