Rossi avoids doping ban

Former Genoa and Italy striker Giuseppe Rossi has avoided a doping ban after testing positive for dorzolamide.

The banned substance was detected in a drug test Rossi took after Genoa’s match against Benevento on May 12.

However, Italy’s anti-doping court only chose to reprimand the ex-Manchester United, Villarreal and Fiorentina forward as opposed to suspend him.

Dorzolamyde can usually be found in anti-glaucoma medication, but it is also a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor and can be used as a masking agent.

Rossi: 'I've always been clean'

Giuseppe Rossi insists he has “always been clean” and his failed doping test is due to accidentally administering a banned substance.

The striker tested positive for dorzolamide, an anti-glaucoma substance usually found in eye drops, but which has been used as a masking agent to cover other drugs.

This test was taken after Genoa’s game with Benevento on May 12, but the player is now a free agent.

Rossi risks doping ban

Giuseppe Rossi risks a one-year doping ban, after testing positive for dorzolamide after Benevento-Genoa last season.

The Italian international is currently without a club after leaving the Grifone, making nine appearances and scoring once.

Rossi tested positive for dorzolamyde, a drug that can usually be found in anti-glaucoma medication, but which is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor and can be used as a masking agent.

A masking agent works by making drug tests ineffective, leading to false negative results.

Bologna look to Pepito Rossi

Giuseppe Rossi has emerged as a potential free agent signing for Bologna to replace injured Rodrigo Palacio.

The Rossoblu will be without Palacio for at least three weeks after he tore a muscle in his left thigh during training.

As the Serie A transfer window has now closed, the only options are to bring in free agents.

Among those mentioned were Antonio Cassano and Marco Borriello, but the latest candidate is Pepito Rossi.

He played for Genoa last season and continues his recovery from a series of knee problems.

Rossi full circle for Parma?

Giuseppe Rossi could come full circle in his career, leaving Genoa for a return to his first club Parma on their Serie A comeback.

Sky Sport Italia claim the American-born forward will move on after one goal in nine games for the Grifone.

It would be a remarkable story for the 31-year-old, who came up through the Ducali academy before he was poached by Manchester United in 2004.

He already returned to Parma once before, on loan for six months in 2007, impressing enough to earn a €10m transfer to Villarreal.
