Rossi: ‘I’ll never quit’

Giuseppe Rossi admits he’s “lost count” of the number of knee surgeries he’s had, but “I sacrificed too much” to consider quitting.

The Italian international’s career has been blighted by a series of knee problems, including three anterior cruciate ligament tears, a meniscus tear and an intra-articular ligament fissure.

The 31-year-old signed for Genoa in December but managed only one start, and after 10 appearances in total he wasn’t offered a new deal.

Rossi full circle for Parma?

Giuseppe Rossi could come full circle in his career, leaving Genoa for a return to his first club Parma on their Serie A comeback.

Sky Sport Italia claim the American-born forward will move on after one goal in nine games for the Grifone.

It would be a remarkable story for the 31-year-old, who came up through the Ducali academy before he was poached by Manchester United in 2004.

He already returned to Parma once before, on loan for six months in 2007, impressing enough to earn a €10m transfer to Villarreal.

Genoa: Perin can leave, Rossi…

Genoa owner Enrico Preziosi admits Mattia Perin can leave ‘if a big opportunity arises’ and hopes to keep Giuseppe Rossi, who ‘makes love with the ball’.

Preziosi’s remarks will surely put Napoli on red alert for Perin and encourage Rossi, who has made just five goalless appearances for Genoa since his free transfer in January, although Coach Davide Ballardini may feel aggrieved after turning the Grifone’s season around.

Agent: 'Rossi dreams of Italy'

Rossi unimpressed by VAR

Genoa striker Giuseppe Rossi was unimpressed with the use of VAR in the win over Lazio, asking “are we kidding?”

The Italian international was injured and forced to watch the game from home, with his teammates grabbing a late win at the Stadio Olimpico.

There was a controversial moment just before that though, as Diego Laxalt thought he had scored the winner, only to see his goal overturned by the Video Assistant Referee.

While the ball did strike his hand, it had been played off him at close range by Martin Caceres.

Is there still time for Rossi?

As Pepito turns 31, a catalogue of Injury has led to his last chance saloon in Genoa writes Jack Stevens.

"Giuseppe Rossi will be out for six months; the Italian striker has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee." As words go, none were more prophetic that those uttered by the disheartened Villarreal press officer in 2011. As if cursed, Rossi’s numerous debilitating injuries stuck like daggers into the hearts of Azzurri fans and football fans worldwide, each blow failing to numb the next. As Rossi now turns 31, he carries the burden of being one of football’s most famous lost causes, but is there time for him to enjoy the career he deserves?
