Cana heading to Nantes

Lorik Cana is expected to leave Lazio and sign for Nantes over the weekend.

The Albanian defender has been generally left out of the squad so far this summer, as he is not part of Coach Stefano Pioli’s project.

“Nantes President Waldemar Kita confirmed to me that Lorik Cana will sign over the next few hours,” announced RTL reporter Pascal Praud.

The 32-year-old is in the final season of his contract with Lazio.

Cana: ‘Talking to Marseille’

Lazio defender Lorik Cana admits he’s ‘in talks with Marseille’, but cautions that nothing has been decided yet.

The 31-year-old made just 15 starts for the Aquile last year, having found himself marginalised by the arrival of Stefan De Vrij.

“I’m in talks with Marseille, it’s true,” Cana told reporters in his native Albania, as reported by CalcioNews24.

“There’s nothing official though. The French club want me, but I haven’t decided where I’ll be playing next season.”

Lulic skips derby, Cana doubtful

Lazio's Senad Lulic will be out with injury for 40 days, but there is hope Lorik Cana can improve in time for the derby against Roma.

The capital’s two sides face off for a highly anticipated derby on Sunday at 2pm UK time.

However, it looks like the Biancocelesti will be heading into the game without some of their assets.

In an official statement made on their site yesterday, Lazio have distributed the results of the medical exams for Cana and Lulic.

No case for Lazio’s defence

Two consecutive losses in which Lazio conceded five goals has put the club’s defence back under scrutiny, writes Alasdair Mackenzie.

A 3-0 defeat to Juventus on Saturday highlighted not only that Stefano Pioli couldn’t end an 11-year wait for a League win over the Bianconeri, but that the new Coach is still suffering from the same crippling issues as his predecessors.

Djordjevic downplays Balkan brawl

Lazio striker Filip Djordjevic has insisted that there is no bad blood between himself and his Albanian teammates Etrit Berisha and Lorik Cana.

The two Balkan nations’ recent European Championship qualifier in Belgrade was abandoned shortly before half-time after clashes between the players and then with fans, incited by a political flag flown over the pitch by a drone.

However, for the Lazio contingent who were on both sides of that Tuesday evening brawl, there is no aftermath.

Lotito: Lazio an example

Lazio President Claudio Lotito believes his club represents an example of what football could teach the world of politics.

Political tensions were inflamed during a Euro 2016 qualifier between Serbia and Albania after a drone bearing an Albanian flag was flown into the stadium. The match descended into chaos and was abandoned.

The Lazio squad contains both Serbian and Albanian internationals, and Lotito believes this shows the positive message football can promote.
