Official: Dal Pino new Serie A chief

The new Lega Serie A President has been elected, as Paolo Dal Pino received 12 out of 20 votes from the top flight clubs.

It was just one more vote than the majority required to secure the election, after two previous attempts had failed to reach the quorum.

Dal Pino is from Milan and has worked for Fininvest, Mondadori, Kataweb, Telecom, SEAT, Pirelli and Wind.

He received 12 votes, Gaetano Miccichè had seven, with one left blank.

Abete to be Serie A commissioner

The Italian Football Federation has named former FIGC President Giancarlo Abete as commissioner of the Lega Serie A following the resignation of Mario Cicala.

Cicala had only been in the job for a number of days, but was forced to resign due to previously undisclosed links to Lazio.

This proved to be a conflict of interest and therefore Cicala was forced to resign.

Cicala had replaced Gaetano Micciche, who resigned on December 3.

Former FIGC President Abete has now been named as commissioner of the league, report news agency Ansa.

FIGC commissioner steps down

Italian football lurches from one farce to another as the FIGC’s commissioner steps down for failing to disclose his links with Lazio.

Mario Cicala was only appointed commissioner of the FIGC on December 3 after Gaetano Micciche resigned as President and no replacement was elected.

However, ANSA reports he has already been forced to vacate his position over a conflict of interest relating to his role on Lazio’s supervisory board, which he did not mention in his CV.

Serie A set for commissionership

Serie A will be run by a commissioner until March after not enough club Presidents voted for fresh elections to take place.

Miccichè resigned as President of Lega Serie A last month and an assembly had been called to find a new chief.

However, reports this morning claim the target of 14 votes was not reached by top-flight patrons after two rounds of ballots.

Therefore, Mario Cicala will be active commissioner from tomorrow and stay in the role until March 10, 2020.

Mancini: 'My advice to Kean...'

Roberto Mancini has advised Everton striker Moise Kean to “find a club that lets him always play” if he wants to make Italy’s Euro 2020 squad.

Italy have been seeded for the European Championship this summer but could yet be drawn with holders Portugal, who are in Pot 3 after they failed to win their qualifying group.

“Portugal in Pot 3 is illogical,” Mancini told Rai Sport.

Mancini wants England and Germany tests

The Corriere dello Sport report that Italy coach Roberto Mancini would like two friendlies against England and Germany, as opposed to a trip to Qatar.

The Azzurri had been scheduled to fly to Qatar for a lucrative deal that included two games in March 2020.

However, Mancini believed the trip to be of no purpose to his team, and requested that they organise friendlies against tougher opposition, with England and Germany believed to be the two sides Mancio wants to face.

Micciche resigns as Serie A chief

Gaetano Micciche has surprisingly decided to step down from his role as President of Lega Serie A.

The resignation comes after Genoa owner Enrico Preziosi alleged there were irregularities with how Micciche was elected President in March 2018.

That prompted FIGC prosecutors to open an investigation into the manner in which the banker was voted in.

“I wish to announce, with this declaration, my immediate resignation as President of Lega Serie A,” he said in a Press release.

Serie A takes out TV pirates

Lega Serie A says the arrest of an illegal TV operator is “excellent news for our country”, which makes “our world a much better place”.

One of the creators of ‘Xtream Codes’ was arrested in Greece yesterday, as part of a European investigation into the clamping-down of illegal streams known as IPTV.

It is estimated that 5m people in Italy use the platform, with around 700,000 actively connected at the time of the service’s shutdown.

ADL: 'Start Serie A season abroad'

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis suggested starting the Serie A season in a major European city, because “most of the Italian fans are at the beach.”

The conversation occurred after a meeting with Chinese authorities to sign a synergy agreement, although Lega Serie A President Gaetano Miccichè made clear it would not mean Serie A matches played in China.

“That isn’t something to be considered for at least the next few years. We could talk about the Super Cup or some Coppa Italia games.”

'Italy stadia better than Gabon'

Lega Serie A chief Gaetano Micciche has rejected FIFA’s claims that Gabon have better stadia than Italy and ruled out talk of Scudetto playoffs.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino warned Italy last week that they were behind Gabon in terms of infrastructure, but Micciche has hit back.

“I don’t know about stadiums in Gabon, but I don’t think we’re behind them,” he told Gr Parlamento.
