Buffon stands by Oliver criticism

Gianluigi Buffon ‘certainly misses Juventus but not Mauro Icardi’ and ‘would say the same things again’ about referee Michael Oliver.

Icardi has scored eight goals in his 12 previous meetings with Juve, while Buffon slammed Oliver in April after the Englishman had sent him off for lashing out and given Real Madrid a last-minute penalty, which knocked the Bianconeri out of the Champions League.

Buffon: ‘Juventus among CL favourites’

Gianluigi Buffon believes Juventus are “certainly” among the favourites for the Champions League but Paris Saint-Germain “need time”.

The goalkeeper has been beaten in the final of the competition three times with the Bianconeri, but believes this could be the right year for his former teammates.

“There are two or three favourites for the Champions League,” Buffon told Sky.

Buffon ban on Tuesday?

Gianluigi Buffon should learn the extent of his UEFA ban on Tuesday after the insults aimed at referee Michael Oliver.

The Juventus goalkeeper was sent off during the quarter-final against Real Madrid, which is expected to warrant a one or two-match ban.

His comments made to the media after the game could create even more problems and, according to Tuttosport, a verdict from the disciplinary commission is expected on Tuesday.

Buffon faces CL ban

Gianluigi Buffon will today learn if he’ll receive an extended suspension from UEFA for his tirade at Michael Oliver.

The goalkeeper was incensed by the referee’s decision to award a penalty against Real Madrid, and was sent off for his protests.

Buffon then continued his diatribe after the match, stating that the official was too inexperienced to handle a match of that magnitude.

The 40-year-old later admitted that he crossed the line, and he has been charged by UEFA for his comments.

Collina: ‘Oliver was right’

UEFA referee designator Pierluigi Collina insists Real Madrid’s penalty against Juventus was “correctly given” by Michael Oliver.

The Bianconeri were incensed when the English official pointed to the spot in the last minute of their Champions League quarter-final second leg, with the tie poised at 3-3 on aggregate.

Gianluigi Buffon was sent off, and later claimed the referee didn’t have the experience to cope with a game of that magnitude.

“It was a penalty correctly given,” Collina told the Daily Telegraph.

Buffon: ‘I deserve ban’

Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon admits he deserves a UEFA ban for his post match comments about Michael Oliver - “I crossed the line”.

The goalkeeper will leave the Bianconeri at the end of this season, but still hasn’t decided whether or not he’ll retire.

Announcing his decision in a Press conference today, the 40-year-old was asked about a ban which could be coming his way for his comments after the Champions League quarter-final.

“I think it’s right,” Buffon shrugged.

Ceferin: Buffon a gentleman

UEFA’s Aleksander Ceferin has hailed Gianluigi Buffon as a ’gentleman‘, despite his ‘unacceptable’ behaviour during Real Madrid-Juventus.

Buffon was sent off for excessive dissent towards Michael Oliver after he took issue with the referee’s decision to award Madrid a stoppage-time penalty, which ultimately knocked Juve out of the Champions League and sent Los Blancos into the semi-finals.

“After the game, I talked to a lot of people, with Agnelli, Collina...” the European football chief told La Stampa.
