Kouame: 'Couldn't believe Fiorentina called'

New Fiorentina signing Christian Kouame says he “couldn’t believe it when the club called,” following his January move from Genoa.

Kouame signed for the Viola despite being injured, but the club’s director of sport Daniele Prade had no doubts.

“Christian is a strong player. Buying a player in January who is injured may seem like a risk, but he is not,” Prade said at Kouame’s unveiling.

“His sugery was done well and he might be back on the pitch in April, even if we are aiming for next season.

Kouame agrees Fiorentina transfer

Fiorentina have agreed a €10m plus bonuses deal for Genoa striker Christian Kouame, sending winger Riccardo Sottil on loan to Marassi.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and Tuttomercatoweb, Kouame could even have his medical tomorrow.

However, he would not be able to play for the Viola this season, as the 22-year-old is out for several more months after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in November while on international duty.

Fiorentina to make double signing?

Fiorentina are working on deals to sign Genoa’s Christian Kouame and Sassuolo’s Alfred Duncan, according to Sky Sport Italia.

Kouame is currently out with a knee injury sustained for Ivory Coast’s U-23 side against South Africa in November.

Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport Italia states that the Viola have opened talks with Genoa over buying the striker. The 22-year-old is out of action until May, and Fiorentina will reportedly want the player to undergo a rigorous medical ahead of transfer for next season.

Thiago Motta demands Genoa goals

Genoa boss Thiago Motta expects his midfielders to chip in with goals in the wake of Christian Kouame's injury and has a very different approach to SPAL.

"Kouame's injury should act as motivation for the whole team, not just in the attacking department. I expect goals from midfielders and defenders. Games are just not won by strikers," said the coach in his press conference.

Tankovic has Genoa medical

Swedish striker Muamer Tankovic has landed in Genoa for his medical ahead of a move to the Serie A side.

Tankovic is making the transfer from Hammarby, where he has played since 2017, and will reportedly cost the Rossoblu €2m.

The club needed a striker after Christian Kouame ruptured his ACL while playing for the Ivory Coast U23s last week.

Kouame will be out of action until June 2020 following surgery.

Kouame out for six months

Genoa forward Christian Kouame went under the knife after an anterior cruciate ligament injury and will be out for circa six months.

He was on international duty with the Ivory Coast at the Under-23 African Cup of Nations when he tore the ACL in his left knee.

The operation was performed at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome today and Kouame is expected to be out of action for six months.

Genoa look to Ben Arfa?

Genoa's search for a replacement for the injured Christian Kouame could lead them to former Newcastle and Nice forward Hatem Ben Arfa.

Kouame ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament whilst playing for the Ivory Coast U-23s against South Africa and is out for five to six months.

This has led the Grifone scrambling trying to find a suitable replacement.

In recent days there has been links to Milan's Krzysztof Piatek, who left Genoa in January, and Hammarby's Muamer Hankovic.

Genoa target Tankovic

Genoa are targeting former Fulham striker Muamer Tankovic as a replacement for the injured Christian Kouame.

The Swedish international, currently at Hammarby in Sweden, has scored 14 goals this season from 28 games.

Tankovic moved from Fulham to AZ Alkmaar in 2014 and spent three years in Holland before moving back to Sweden in 2017.

Genoa are in need of a striker after Kouame ruptured his ACL whilst playing for the Ivory Coast U-23s, ruling him out for five to six months.

Kouame: 'Smile at setbacks'

Genoa striker Christian Kouame thanked fans for their support after a devastating knee injury. “I face every situation with a smile.”

The forward was on international duty with the Ivory Coast Under-23 team against South Africa when he was stretchered off with a knee injury.

Tests today confirmed he has torn his anterior cruciate ligament, which means five to six months on the sidelines.

“I have always been accustomed to facing every situation with a smile,” wrote Kouame on Instagram.

Kouame was set for Crystal Palace

Christian Kouame’s serious knee injury isn’t just bad for Genoa, but also for Crystal Palace, as he was reportedly due to join for €25m plus bonuses in January.

The forward was on international duty with the Ivory Coast in the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations when suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear.

He turns 22 next month and was having a strong season with Genoa, scoring five goals with three assists in 11 Serie A appearances.
