Iachini: 'Fiorentina deserved to win'

Beppe Iachini believes Fiorentina deserved a victory against Inter, so there are many regrets after a 4-3 defeat. ‘We have a lot of very young forwards and they are a little green.’

The Viola had taken the lead at San Siro within three minutes, were 3-2 up at the 86th minute and wasted a golden opportunity with Dusan Vlahovic, set on a silver platter for him by Franck Ribery.

Kouame: 'I was going to England'

Fiorentina winger Christian Kouame has revealed he was on his way to the Premier League before rupturing his ACL. ‘It was my destiny’.

The 22-year-old moved on loan to the Viola in January and made his €11m move from Genoa permanent in September.

He has signed a deal until June 2024 but reveals it could have been a different story had he not injured his ACL last season.

“I was about to go to the Premier League,” he said. “But Florence was obviously in my future and I’m very happy to be here now.

Viola: Biraghi injured in 5-1 win

Fiorentina wing-back Cristiano Biraghi left the pitch injured after 21 minutes of the 5-1 win against Reggiana today.

The left-back, who recently returned from loan at Inter, headed straight down the tunnel after taking a hit in the first half against Reggiana today.

Braces from Franck Ribery and Christian Kouame and a goal from Federico Chiesa secured a triumphant win in Saturday’s friendly.

But Biraghi has Iachini worried, as the coach must wait to understand the extent of the Italy international’s injury.

Ribery and Kouame braces for Fiorentina

Fiorentina flattened Lucchese 5-0 in their pre-season friendly, with Franck Ribery and Christian Kouame braces.

It was one-way traffic for the Viola against their Serie C counterparts, German Pezzella and Ribery both striking the woodwork early on, while Kouame and Lorenzo Venuti forced desperate saves.

Ribery finally broke through on 39 minutes after he dribbled past two players for a right-foot finish.

Kouame ran riot in the second half, rising to nod in an Alfred Duncan cross and then setting up Ribery’s second of the game.

Experience isn't everything for Inter

Antonio Conte and Inter are so focused on experienced names, they risk losing sight of the youthful potential at their disposal, warns Richard Hall.

The message from Antonio Conte after dropping points against Bologna and Verona was always the same – Inter need more experienced players in their ranks. His obsession with bringing in ready-made champions means the Nerazzurri could once again waste the talent at their disposal and overlook youthful potential to chase after a veteran name.

Iachini: 'Fiorentina not clinical enough'

Beppe Iachini rued Fiorentina’s lack of clinical edge against Cagliari, defended taking off Federico Chiesa and backed Christian Kouame to give ‘a big hand’.

Fiorentina failed to build on their win at Parma as they were held to a goalless draw by Cagliari last night.

However, it was not through a lack of trying as Iachini’s side hit the woodwork and had 16 attempts on goal.

The reformation of Fiorentina

La Viola have put the threat of relegation behind them for now, but Owen Diana worries about how they’ll rebuild for Rocco Commisso’s ambitious vision.

As the dust settled after a convulsive weekend at the bottom of Serie A, Fiorentina could breathe a huge sigh of relief. Barring a collapse of historic proportions, La Viola’s spot at the top table of Italian football is all but assured after a 2-1 win at Parma. Nevertheless, their laboured performance in a match that represented a huge step towards salvation further exposed the uncertain future of one of the country’s most important clubs.
