Genoa and Milan want Ankersen

Genoa have joined Milan in chasing FC Copenhagen right-back Peter Ankersen, claim Sportitalia.

The Denmark international turns 29 next month and joined FC Kobenhavn in 2014, although there was a brief loan spell at RB Salzburg in 2015-16.

He contributed one goal and eight assists in 47 competitive games last season.

Primarily a right-back, Ankersen can also play on the left side of defence when needed.

Sportitalia noted the Dane had already been linked with Milan, but now Genoa are tracking his progress with an eye towards a summer move.

Vavro set for Lazio medical

FC Copenhagen defender Denis Vavro is expected in Rome for his medical on Thursday after agreeing a €10m plus bonuses move to Lazio.

Multiple sources including Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia all have the same version of the story, which is that a deal is done and he’ll have his tests tomorrow.

The asking price was €12.5m, but it seems as if the Biancocelesti have negotiated that down to €10m plus €1.5m in add-ons.

Lazio close on Vavro move

Lazio are closing on FC Copenhagen centre-back Denis Vavro for €10m, as it’s reported Watford saw their offer rejected.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Premier League side Watford made a bid for the Slovakia international, but it was insufficient.

The Biancocelesti are confident the 23-year-old favours them and hope to lower the asking price from €12m to €10m.

Vavro only joined FC Copenhagen from MSK Zilina in 2017 for €1.4m and his contract runs to June 2022.

EL: Atalanta out on penalties

Atalanta hit the woodwork with Papu Gomez, while the captain and Andreas Cornelius missed decisive penalties in the Europa League play-off with FC Copenhagen.

The first leg ended 0-0, even though Gian Piero Gasperini’s men dominated the match and forced numerous tough saves out of Jesse Joronen. It meant a score draw in Denmark would be enough to secure qualification to the group stage after eliminating Sarajevo and Hapoel Haifa. Josip Ilicic was still out of action with a mystery illness, while several star names were rested for Monday’s 3-3 thriller at Roma.

Line-ups: Copenhagen-Atalanta

Atalanta face the final hurdle towards the Europa League group phase with the second leg of their play-off with FC Kobenhavn.

It kicks off in Copenhagen at 17.30 UK time (16.30 GMT) and follows on from the goalless draw in Italy.

That means a score draw would be enough for the Orobici to book their spot in the tournament proper, having already eliminated Sarajevo and Hapoel Haifa in the preliminary rounds.

Although that first leg ended 0-0, Atalanta absolutely dominated and peppered the goal with shots, very unlucky not to take the victory.
